The Top 5 Plastic Surgery Procedures of 2017: Breast Augmentation Satisfaction and More

Plastic surgery trends are always changing. Years ago, you didn’t get cosmetic plastic surgery unless you wanted a dramatically different look. Today, cosmetic plastic surgery is more about restoring your body to its former glory and getting a natural, not overdone look. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released statistics for the top five cosmetic surgical procedures in 2017. They were as follows:

  1. Breast Augmentation
  2. Liposuction
  3. Nose Reshaping
  4. Eyelid Surgery
  5. Tummy Tuck

The best plastic surgeons should be able to deliver beautiful, natural-looking results. You deserve to leave the office happier and more confident than when you came in. At Rowley Plastic Surgery in Lubbock, TX, Dr. Jane Rowley is a surgeon with world-class training and expertise. Her patients can have full confidence in her exceptional skill set and caring, yet straightforward demeanor. Let’s look at a few of the top five procedures and see what Dr. Rowley’s patients have to say about their experience.

Breast Augmentation Satisfaction Ratings

The number one most popular cosmetic procedure for over a decade, 98% of patients on Realself say their breast augmentation was “worth it.” A study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed that over 90% of patients had improved self-esteem after a breast augmentation and about 64% said their quality of life had also improved. Dr. Rowley spends a long time talking to her augmentation patients about cup sizes and types of implants, and emphasizes that patients need to have realistic goals for the most positive outcomes. According to Dr. Rowley,

“The most difficult—and important—aspect of this procedure is making sure the patient has clear expectations.  A skilled surgeon can make your breasts larger, but we cannot make your breasts look like someone else’s breasts.”

Dr. Rowley’s patients are thrilled with their breast augmentation results, and consider her one of the best plastic surgeons in the area. Here’s what one of her patients had to say after this procedure:

“A great doctor is essential for a great breast augmentation. Doctor Jane Rowley is just that and more! She is professional, compassionate, and detail oriented with a excellent bedside manner. She is sincere in listening to my needs and wants while maintaining the highest quality of patient safety. My end result is beautiful, sexy and very tasteful. I now have fuller, more natural looking breasts that are proportionate to my body . . . I give my highest recommendation for anyone wanting a breast augmentation to Doctor Jane. I love my results and could not ask for a better surgeon and staff.” – Realself review from jenzy11

Look Instantly Younger with Eyelid Surgery

Patients who have excess skin on their upper or lower eyelids can have it removed with a blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. On Realself, eyelid surgery ranks close to breast augmentation satisfaction, with 94% of patients saying their eyelid surgery was “worth it”. Dr. Rowley says she’s had eyelid surgery herself, and it’s an easy operation. Dr. Rowley explains,

“The upper eyelids are the procedure that can give a patient the most significant change in their appearance with the most minimal surgical recovery. The key thing is to not take too much skin off of the upper eyelids, which can cause serious complications.”

Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat to leave the upper lid skin tighter and fresher in appearance. Lower eyelid surgery addresses the bags under your eyes, giving you a refreshed and youthful look. One patient says,

“I have seen Jane for years for things like botox and fillers. She has sutured up my kids and taken skin cancers off my parents. I finally found time to do my upper eyelids. I am 50 years old and I swear I look ten years younger. Friends think I have lost weight or have new makeup! Jane and her office staff are the best. . .” – Realself.com review from lulub79410

Get the Best Plastic Surgeon for your Tummy Tuck

It’s not always easy to get rid of that stomach bulge after having children or losing a lot of weight. For men and women who have excess skin and fatty tissue in their tummy area, an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, may be the right option. On Realself, 97% of patients say their tummy tuck was “worth it”. Dr. Rowley says,

“This is a surgery that actually involves the entire core of your body, with tightening of the abdominal muscles and tightening of the skin. The results can be exceptional on the right patient. Although weight loss might not be significant with this procedure, contouring and tightening of the abdominal wall is significant.”

“I had a great experience overall with Dr. Jane Rowley. She did an excellent job of offering options to me and we both decided that a tummy tuck would give me the best result. . .  I have referred many of my friend to her and that is all due to the fact of me being completely pleased with how awesome my tummy looks now!!!! Dr. Rowley is very down to earth, a trait that many Dr.’s don’t possess. I would recommend her time and time again!!!” – Realself review from trooperwife

Looking at Your Breast Implant Options with Dr. Jane Rowley

Maybe you want to restore lost breast volume from nursing your baby, or perhaps you’ve always had a lack of breast tissue and are ready to get the breasts you’ve always wanted. It could be that you’ve always had asymmetrical breasts, and you just want them to finally look even. Women have all different reasons for wanting a breast augmentation, and the different types of breast implants on the market today can help you achieve your personal goals. In Lubbock, TX, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jane Rowley presents all your breast implant options and works with you to obtain beautiful, natural-looking results. Here’s a brief explanation about each type of implant and what you need to know before you settle on one.

Types of Breast Implants

Silicone gel breast implants: For years, women have liked silicone gel implants for their natural feel and look. These implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel and are FDA-approved for women over the age of 22. The implant is filled when it’s manufactured, so longer incisions are needed to place these implants. If a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is undetectable by looking in the mirror, so an MRI scan of the breasts is recommended every 2-3 years by the FDA to be sure there is no silicone gel leaking into your body. These implants can have smooth or textured shells.

Silicone gel “Gummy bear,” implants: Just like the name suggests, these feel like a “gummy bear” because the silicone gel inside is thicker and more cohesive. These implants are available in round or teardrop shapes. Among your breast implant options, if you choose a teardrop-shape you’ll get less fullness in the upper part of your breast, but the bottom half of your breast will drop more naturally. However, if a shaped implant rotates in the body, it can look distorted and require another surgery to correct. Patients over the age of 22 are FDA-approved for these implants.

Saline breast implants: For women who are worried about silicone gel leaking into their body, saline implants are an alternative choice. If you experience a leak in your saline implants, you will be able to see it with a quick glance in the mirror, and the saline will be safely absorbed by your body. Since saline implants are not filled until surgery, they can often be placed with a smaller incision. This also allows your plastic surgeon to add or take out saline solution during surgery for more symmetrical breasts. Some women complain that saline implants feel too similar to a water balloon, and they tend to wrinkle more than other types of breast implants. These are only available in round shapes, and the FDA has approved them for patients over 18.

Structured breast implants, or the IDEAL IMPLANT®: These implants were designed by a plastic surgeon to combine the look and feel of silicone gel with the safety of saline. The IDEAL IMPLANT contains a layered structure so the saline inside will stay in place and not slosh around. A recent study showed that the IDEAL IMPLANT has significantly lower rupture and capsule contracture rates than silicone gel implants. These implants can be placed with a small incision, come only in a round shape, and are FDA approved for patients over 18 years old.

Dr. Rowley says she feels confident in the IDEAL IMPLANT, and likes that it gives her patients peace of mind. “They know when their implant is leaking, they can plan their lives around that, and they know that it’ll be a relatively simple procedure to remove and replace it.”

Breast Implant Options: Textures and Profiles

Though some implants are filled with saline and others with silicone gel, every breast implant on the market today is made with an outer “crosslinked,” solid silicone shell. Sometimes implants have a textured surface to prevent movement inside the chest capsule and avoid rippling of the skin. Out of all the types of breast implants, the IDEAL IMPLANT is made only with a smooth surface.

You can also customize the look you want by choosing varying breast implant profiles. The same amount of volume in a low profile implant will look different than in a moderate or a high profile implant. High profile implants are used to achieve more fullness and projection, while low and moderate profile implants often look more natural. A low profile breast implant is ideal for women with wider chests, while a high profile implant can work better on women with a narrow chest wall.

How to Get Natural Feeling Breast Implants in Lubbock

When considering breast implants, Lubbock women often have questions about how their new breasts will compare to natural ones. Women not only want a particular look for their implants, but they are also hopeful for results that feel like the real thing. After surgery, these women eventually stop thinking about their new breasts as implants and start considering them to be part of their breasts. Natural-feeling results from breast augmentation come from making the right choices with your surgeon before your procedure. It is important to discuss all of the following variables with your board-certified plastic surgeon to make sure you have the best chance at getting the outcome you want.

Silicone, Saline, or Structured Implants

The type of implant you choose can have a significant role in how quickly your breasts feel normal again. Softer silicone gel implants feel natural sooner following surgery than saline implants. But, you have different implants to try before you make that final decision. Your surgeon should give you the chance to feel both types of implants before making your decision.

The new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants are the latest in implant technology that offer the natural look and feel of silicone gel and the peace of mind of saline. Dr. Rowley is part of an exclusive network of plastic surgeons that provides this option to patients. With a structure of chambers and shells inside the implant, its saline filler can move in such a way that it gives the implant a beautiful, natural feel without any of the disadvantages of silicone gel breast implants. Lubbock patients can find out more about the IDEAL IMPLANT at Rowley Plastic Surgery.

Existing Breast Tissue

The more natural breast tissue you have to support the implant, the more quickly the implant will blend with your body and convey a natural look and feel. During your breast augmentation consultation, your plastic surgeon will assess the amount of available breast tissue to give you an idea of how the implants will look on your body.

Breast Implant Size

The larger the implant, the longer it may take to feel like part of your natural breast. Some breast implants in Lubbock may be so large that they will never quite obtain that feel. If your goal is to simply augment what you already have and gain or regain some shape, then you should be careful with the size. A natural look is most often achieved when body proportions are kept in balance.

Breast Implant Placement: Under or Over the Muscle

If you do not have enough breast tissue to cover the implant, it must be placed under the chest muscle. This type of placement requires time for the muscle to stretch and thin out. In general, implant placement beneath the muscle tends to look more like natural breasts and less like breast implants. Lubbock women are all different, so this will not be the right placement for every body type. Women with limited natural breast tissue find that placement under the muscle is necessary. A natural look and feel can also be obtained for implants placed above the muscle.

Breast Implants Above the Muscle

Implants placed below the breast tissue but above the chest muscle are called subglandular or subfascial. Some things to consider about this type of placement include:

  • Typically less invasive than below the muscle breast implants in Lubbock
  • Quicker recovery because the muscle stays intact
  • No distortion from flexing muscles
  • No size limitation due to limited space under the muscle
  • Breast implants can be placed closer together providing more cleavage
  • More likely to have visible rippling of the implant
  • Less support for the implant putting it at risk of dropping over time
  • More likely to cause stretch marks and blemishes
  • More difficult to mammogram

Breast Implants Under the Muscle

Placement under the muscle is often referred to as subpectoral. Here are some things you should know about this placement:

  • Less risk of folds or ripples in the implant becoming visible
  • More tissue covering and protecting the breast implants
  • Less risk of firmness or capsular contracture
  • Longer recovery period
  • Interference with some physical activities like push-ups or weight lifting
  • Potential for visible flexing of the muscle over the breast implants
  • Higher-positioned implants can look unnatural

What Can You Do?

Apart from the psychological and physical aspects to owning their breast implants, Lubbock women can take control and do some things on their own to contribute to a natural feel.

  • Massage: deep massage to the breast implants, especially early after the surgery are important. While this is not the most comfortable thing following surgery, it is important to work the surrounding tissue, helping it feel supple and natural. And if your implant is under your chest muscle, this can help that muscle stretch and relax as well.
  • The Right Surgeon: select a surgeon who truly knows how to give you more natural results. Choosing a doctor certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery will significantly increase your likelihood of achieving your desired results.
  • Patience: a natural feel can take from two to nine months post-surgery to obtain. Be patient with your body. Take care of your new body, and give it the time it needs to become yours in both look and feel.

The Best Breast Implants with a High Safety Profile

For years, women have only had two breast implant options—saline or silicone gel. Unfortunately, both choices come with downsides, forcing women to choose between the beauty they desire, and the security they deserve. But now, the latest in implant technology has brought about a new type of implant—the IDEAL IMPLANT®.

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

The IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant combines the benefits of both silicone gel and saline. It is comprised of a series of shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This unique design allows women to achieve the natural feel and realistic look that is commonly associated with silicone gel, yet offers the peace of mind that comes with saline.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is only available to plastic surgeons who are board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. As a board-certified plastic surgeon and an IDEAL IMPLANT Premier Surgeon, Dr. Jane Rowley is part of this exclusive group. She wants her patients to have access to all the best breast implants in the industry, and is committed to staying up-to-date on the newest products, procedures, and techniques in plastic surgery.

Breast Implant Safety Facts

Dr. Rowley makes sure her patients have all the information they need to make an informed decision before undergoing breast augmentation. She helps her patients understand the surgical process, and explains to them the breast implant safety aspects of each kind of implant. On fda.gov, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration states “some of the complications and adverse outcomes of breast implants include:

  • Additional surgeries, with or without removal of the device
  • Capsular contracture, scar tissue that forms around the implant and squeezes the implant
  • Breast pain
  • Changes in nipple and breast sensation
  • Rupture with deflation of saline-filled implants
  • Rupture with or without symptoms (silent rupture) of silicone gel-filled implants”

A Lower Risk with the IDEAL IMPLANT

A recent study compared the risk of rupture and capsular contracture of silicone gel implants to the IDEAL IMPLANT. The FDA trial data proved that women with the IDEAL IMPLANT have a lower risk of encountering these postoperative complications.

The statistics show the risk of rupture or deflation with the IDEAL IMPLANT at eight years after primary breast augmentation was only 2.1%. This was compared to Allergan Gel that came in at 7.4%, Mentor Gel at 13.6%, and Sientra Gel at 7.2%.

Regarding capsular contracture, those same three brands of silicone gel implants were found to have much higher risk rates than the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT rates of Baker Class III/IV capsular contracture at eight years after primary breast augmentation were at 6.6%, with Allergan Gel at 16.2% (seven years after), Mentor Gel at 10.9% (eight years after), and Sientra Gel at 11.2% (eight years after).

Learning the facts about breast implant safety can help you determine the best breast implants for your body. For more information about this study, watch the video below.

The Aftermath of a Rupture

When a saline implant or the IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, a woman’s body is able to absorb the sterile saltwater solution. She can instantly know her implant is no longer intact because it will be begin to deflate. When a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is referred to as a “silent rupture” since sticky silicone gel can leak into a woman’s body for years without her knowledge, requiring an MRI to detect rupture. That is why the FDA recommends all women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI the third year following primary augmentation, then every two years thereafter for the life of their implants. Dr. Rowley explains what women can expect when removing a ruptured implant:

“The nice thing about the IDEAL IMPLANT is you know that you have an implant in that’s going to be easy to remove, you’re going to know when it’s leaking, and it’s not going to interfere with your life in 10 or 20 or 30 years. There’s a big difference when removing a ruptured saline implant compared to removing a ruptured silicone gel implant … A ruptured saline implant can be removed easily with a local anesthetic. Silicone gel implants, if they’re not ruptured, it can come out that easily. But if they are ruptured, most of time it’s stuck, and it bleeds, and you have to put drains in. So it’s not an easy recovery, it’s not an easy surgery. With the saline implant, I can almost guarantee them ahead of time: ‘Your saline’s leaking, it will be easy to remove and replace. You’ll be back to work in a day or two at the most.’ Silicone implant I’ll say: ‘I don’t know what you’re recovery is going to be. It might come out easily, it might not come out easily. You might have to take a week off work. You might have to take two days off work.’”

The Protection You Deserve With Breast Implants

What should you consider before getting breast implants? Do you know the different types available? What long-term maintenance or monitoring is required? When partnering with Dr. Jane Rowley, she takes the time to answer these questions and address any other concerns her patients have about their breast implant options.

Dr. Rowley’s Commitment to Patient Education

Dr. Rowley is devoted to helping her patients find confidence in their breast augmentation decision. She understands that undergoing breast surgery is a highly personal choice. Every woman has different expectations and varying goals for their appearance. That’s why Dr. Rowley is committed to making sure her patients receive all the information they need to achieve the results they desire.

Every patient at Rowley Plastic Surgery receives specialized care. Since no two women are the same, Dr. Rowley creates customized treatment plans to meet the individual needs of her patients. During the consultation process, she goes over the three kinds of breast implants on the market today – saline, silicone gel, and the new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant.

What are Structured Breast Implants?

As a plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Rowley is part of an exclusive network eligible to offer the IDEAL IMPLANT. This technology-driven implant combines the benefits, without the drawbacks, of both silicone gel and saline. For many years, women have been caught choosing between the natural feel and realistic look associated with silicone gel, and the peace of mind that comes with saline.

But now, women wanting a breast augmentation no longer have to compromise beauty for security. The unique design of the IDEAL IMPLANT delivers the best of both worlds. It is comprised of a series of implant shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This advanced internal structure controls the movement of the saline to mitigate sloshing, supports the implant edge to prevent wrinkling and collapse when upright, and provides projection and volume. Plus, with no use of sticky silicone gel, the IDEAL IMPLANT is 100% risk-free of “silent rupture.”

Basic Protection Plan for No Extra Cost

When women choose the IDEAL IMPLANT, they are automatically enrolled in the Basic Protection Plan provided by IDEAL IMPLANT Incorporated. This limited warranty provides women with financial assistance of up to $3,500 to help with uninsured out-of-pocket surgery costs for deflation for 10 years. So if their IDEAL IMPLANT deflates, women can receive a free replacement implant during their lifetime for deflation, and for the first 10 years for capsular contracture.

Additional Protection

For a more extensive protection, the Premium Protection Plan is also available. Since many health insurance plans do not extend coverage for cosmetic surgery or postoperative problems related to cosmetic surgery, the Premium Protection Plan offers additional benefits to help women be protected from complications related to their breast implants throughout their entire life.

What is Included in the Premium Protection Plan?

The Premium Protection Plan includes all the elements of the Basic Protection Plan, then added protection as well.

The First 60 days – The risk of postoperative problems that are expensive to treat is higher just after surgery, and as time goes on becomes less likely. The Premium Protection Plan extends up to $10,000 in financial assistance during the first 60 days after breast augmentation surgery for bleeding, infection, anesthesia, blood clots, and wound healing events.

The First Year – The Premium Protection Plan includes $5,000 in financial assistance for postoperative events women might face during the first year following their procedure such as capsular contracture, deflation, insertional scar revision, and related events.

Subsequent Years – Women can have the peace of mind knowing their IDEAL IMPLANTS are covered for their entire life. The Premium Protection Plan doesn’t end after the first year.  $5,000 in financial assistance continues on for capsular contracture, deflation, insertional scar revision, and related events.

For further explanation of the Premium Protection Plan, watch the video below.

How To Get the Premium Protection Plan

To get this added protection, women can simply enroll with their plastic surgeon prior to their procedure. The cost is $189 for primary breast augmentation, or $249 if exchanging existing implants. Each year thereafter, renewal is only $79. Since unexpected or uninsured costs can come about at any time, this affordable lifetime protection is an investment for a worry-free future. And if the Premium Protection Plan is not renewed, the Basic Protection Plan automatically still applies for the remainder of its original term.

A Breast Augmentation with Dr. Rowley

The IDEAL IMPLANT was designed to give women the look they desire, with the confidence they deserve. Women can enjoy lifelong security knowing their breast implants are protected with the Premium Protection Plan. If you have questions regarding the financial assistance available to you with the IDEAL IMPLANT, Dr. Rowley can help you understand your options. Plastic Surgery with Dr. Jane Rowley

Are you considering plastic surgery? Have a certain procedure in mind? Do you know what steps to take to achieve the best results possible? Whether you want breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, or full “mommy makeover,” partnering with a skilled and well-qualified plastic surgeon is the key to a successful outcome.

Searching “Plastic Surgeons Near Me”

The Internet is a great resource with loads of information on any given topic. A simple search of “plastic surgeons near me” will bring up multiple doctors in your area. While those hits are a good starting point, it is vital to further research the right fit for you.

It is especially important to work with a plastic surgeon that is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. According to www.abplasticsurgery.org, plastic surgeons that have “met high standards in training requirements and successfully passed the examinations covering the breadth of plastic surgery” can be eligible for certification. The website further explains “the mission of The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification and maintenance of certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists . . . the purpose of the Board is to evaluate the education, training, and knowledge of broadly competent and responsible plastic surgeons.”

Dr. Jane Rowley and the IDEAL IMPLANT

Dr. Jane Rowley, at Rowley Plastic Surgery in Lubbock, TX, is part of this exclusive group of board-certified plastic surgeons, making her eligible to offer the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is a new, innovative type of implant that combines the natural feel of silicone gel with the peace of mind of saline.

Women are often familiar with silicone gel or saline breast implants. Silicone gel implants are known for their realistic look, yet inherently come with the risk of “silent rupture.” Only detectable by MRI, this kind of rupture occurs when sticky silicone gel begins to leak into the surrounding tissues of a woman’s body without her knowledge. Surgery is then required to clean out the leaked gel and remove the ruptured implant. For this reason, the FDA recommends that women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI scan three years following their breast augmentation, then every two years following.

If a saline implant ruptures, a woman’s body will harmlessly absorb the sterile saltwater solution. And while this security is invaluable to many women, saline implants can move and behave like a water balloon due to no internal structure. This creates a less-than-natural feel and can cause wrinkling or rippling of the skin. Yet saline implants were once the only alternative for women worried about the risk of “silent rupture.”

But now, women no longer have to choose between the beauty they desire with the confidence they deserve. The IDEAL IMPLANT is a third breast implant option that combines the advantages, without the drawbacks, of both silicone gel and saline. It is made up of a series of implant shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This advanced internal structure:

  • Provides a youthful shape and projection
  • Creates a natural feel and realistic look
  • Controls the movement of the saline to mitigate sloshing
  • Reduces wrinkling and rippling
  • Gives support to the upper portion of the implant to prevent collapse when upright
  • Carries no risk of “silent rupture”

The Guide to Sizing for Breast Implants Lubbock Women Need

During your breast augmentation consultation, your plastic surgeon will ask you what size you would like your breasts to be. Communicating these expectations can be difficult for some women as they try to describe their ideal size. You may have a final cup size you would like to achieve, but breast implant sizes do not match up with a certain bra size. As patient and doctor discuss breast augmentation, they should consider long-term goals for the surgical results. And when considering the sizing of their breast implants, Lubbock women should think about their body proportion, lifestyle, and other important factors that will affect their overall satisfaction with the procedure.

Breast Implant Size and Your Body

Size can be one of the toughest topics to navigate when establishing clear expectations for your breast augmentation procedure. We often try talking about breast sizes using bra sizes, but a cup size can look very different on unique body shapes and sizes. Even a standard bra size can vary widely from brand to brand. It often surprises patients at their initial consultation when they find out that cup size is an unreliable way to determine what implant size to get.

With the same breast implants, Lubbock women can look different depending on their body shape and existing breast tissue. For example, your chest and shoulder width play a role in selecting the width of your implants. Going from a small A cup to a small D cup can produce very different results than going from a full B cup to a small D cup. Rather than selecting a bra from the store shelf or comparing with friends to determine the right size for you, come into our Lubbock office for an in-person consultation. We are here to help you understand your options and explain what may be recommended for your body type.

Consider Breast Augmentation and Lifestyle

It is easy to browse the internet or take a look around the poolside to decide what you think is the perfect size for your breast implants. Lubbock women need to remember that it will be an entirely different thing living with that new body they imagined. The goal after a breast augmentation is not to look back and wish that you had either chosen a size larger or a size smaller. Size dissatisfaction post-surgery can be a result of more than just wishing your clothes fit differently. For very active women, maintaining that lifestyle with a new and larger chest can be difficult. If sports and exercise are an important part of your life, consider an implant that will give you lift, shape, and fullness, but not an excessively large breast size.

Too Much of a Good Thing

When they get breast implants Lubbock women find that it does more than impact their appearance, it also impacts their lifestyle and ability to move. When weight is removed through liposuction, people often find that movement and exercise are much easier. Breast implants, however, add weight to your body and change your balance. Aerobic activities can be a bit tricky with larger breasts, and active individuals may find that while their new, larger breasts look great in a dress, they don’t feel great on the treadmill.

A More Natural Look and Feel

Today’s trends for breast augmentation lean toward more natural looking breast implants. Lubbock patients often do not want the extra unwanted attention that sometimes comes with a larger implant. Most women do not want to end up looking fake after their surgery. Proportion is key when choosing a breast implant size that will look beautiful on you, and sometimes that calls for a smaller implant. If you want a natural look, a smaller implant can help you fill out your clothes comfortably and add definition to your shape without calling excessive attention to your chest.

More than “Bigger is Better”

Ultimately, you need to get the breast implants that you want. Most people who have a healthy self-image and realistic expectations of this procedure find that they are incredibly happy with the results of their breast implants. Lubbock women who get larger implants at the recommendation of someone else often find themselves eventually unhappy and returning for additional procedures to reduce the size of the implants. So do what makes you happy and love your body, because you’re beautiful!

It is also important to remember that breast augmentation is not a competition about size. By correcting an asymmetric chest or adding some lost fullness with the right sized breast implants, Lubbock women can find great satisfaction and an increase in self-confidence. Dr. Jane Rowley knows the importance of spending all the time that is needed to understand her patient’s expectations with her breast augmentation. Schedule your no-obligation consultation today and to learn about the possibilities you can have with breast enhancement surgery.

A new, revolutionary “structured” implant combines the beauty of silicone gel with the security of saline to give women the freedom and confidence they deserve. IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants use the latest implant technology to provide the best features women want in an implant, without the worry of “silent rupture.”

Silicone Implants and “Silent Rupture”

When a saline implant develops a tear or hole, a woman’s body can harmlessly absorb the sterile saltwater solution until the implant is removed and replaced. On the other hand, silicone implants carry the risk of “silent rupture.” This happens when sticky silicone gel leaks into the surrounding breast tissue without a woman knowing her implant is compromised. Only an MRI scan can detect a “silent rupture,” and surgery is then required to clean out the escaped gel.

The IDEAL IMPLANT carries no risk of “silent rupture,” and requires no MRI to detect rupture. Women can simply look in the mirror to ensure their implants are intact. In fact, the innovative design of the IDEAL IMPLANT provides structural strength to the implant giving it a lower rupture rate compared to silicone gel implants. The video below further compares the IDEAL IMPLANT to saline and silicone implants.

A Technology-Driven Choice

When Dr. Robert Hamas invented the IDEAL IMPLANT, he wanted to create an implant choice that did not force women to sacrifice beauty for security. He found that women were caught between wanting the natural feel of silicone gel, and the peace of mind that comes with saline. That’s when he decided to find a solution that those other breast implant options could not offer.

The IDEAL IMPLANT underwent ten years of development, refinement, and extensive testing under the care of a dedicated team of scientists, engineers, and consultants. Then in 2014, it was approved by the FDA and Health Canada following a multi-center trial of 502 women, and information provided in volumes of safety, manufacturing, and clinical data. The IDEAL IMPLANT is made with proven breast implant materials in an FDA-inspected facility using advanced robotics to achieve greater product consistency and high quality standards.

Comparing Breast Implant Options

The IDEAL IMPLANT is only available to an exclusive group of board-certified plastic surgeons such as Dr. Rowley. She explains the difference between “structured,” saline, and silicone implants:

“The IDEAL IMPLANT is a new saline implant, it is a structured saline implant. The implant itself has a baffled design, so it cuts down on rippling and it feels more natural, which are the two downsides to the traditional saline implant. Silicone feels softer and has less rippling, but the IDEAL IMPLANT really does approximate the feel and look of a silicone implant with the benefits of a saline implant, in that, if it leaks, it’s much easier to tell if it’s leaking. In fact, you can’t miss a leak on a saline implant. A silicone implant can have an undetected leak for years and years, and is much more difficult to remove when it does leak. A saline implant can be removed sometimes with a local anesthetic and it is much easier to deal with. So as far as the IDEAL IMPLANT, I think it’s a great choice in many different cases – older women, women that are switching our ruptured silicone implants, anyone who’s concerned about detecting a leak over time.”

Plastic Surgery with Dr. Jane Rowley

Dr. Rowley focuses on the individual needs of her patients. When meeting with Dr. Rowley, she takes the time to develop a customized treatment plan designed just for you. Since breast implants come in different shapes and sizes, one of the best ways to determine which type of implant is right for your body is to try out your options. Dr. Rowley explains:

“Most people who seek breast augmentation come in with an idea of what cup size they would like to be postoperatively. However, cup size is extremely variable and often depends on the manufacturer of the undergarment. I think it is very important to spend a long time talking to my patients about what size they think they want to be. We look at multiple photographs, go through sample implants together, and I have patients try them on. I find it is not uncommon for someone to come in and say they want to be a C-cup, but when we go over it together, they find they like a little larger appearance, or maybe smaller, once they’ve tried them on. I do not want to trivialize this operation, but from a technical surgical standpoint, it is a relatively simple operation to do. The most difficult and important aspect of this procedure is making sure the patient has clear expectations. A skilled surgeon can make your breasts larger but we cannot make your breasts look like someone else’s breasts. This is why I feel spending a long time discussing size together before the procedure is so important.”

The Choice is Yours

Dr. Rowley understands that receiving breast implants is a big decision. She is committed to helping women look their best and gain the confidence they deserve. The video below shares her philosophy toward plastic surgery.

A New Implant Option

Dr. Rowley remains up-to-date on the latest implant technology. Women are often familiar with silicone gel or saline breast implants, but their options don’t end there. A new, innovative type of implant is now available—the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. The IDEAL IMPLANT combines the natural feel of silicone gel with the safety of saline. Its advanced internal structure sets it apart from all other breast implants. The IDEAL IMPLANT is made up of a series of shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This unique design:

  • Offers the peace of mind that comes from saline
  • Gives the realistic look and youthful shape expected with silicone gel
  • Reduces wrinkling and rippling often associated with saline
  • Supports the upper pole of the implant to prevent collapse when upright
  • Controls the movement of the saline to mitigate sloshing and eliminate the “water-hammer” effect

The IDEAL IMPLANT is empty before placement, so it can be rolled up and inserted through a smaller incision. Its filled after its placed and has an adjustable volume capacity, so plastic surgeons can cater to the exact needs and desires of their patients.

No Risk of “Silent Rupture”

No costly MRI scans are needed to detect rupture with the IDEAL IMPLANT. Women always know their implants are intact by simply looking the mirror. If a rupture does occur, the body safely absorbs the saline. But with silicone gel breast implants, sticky silicone gel can leak and get trapped in the surrounding tissues of a woman’s body, without her even knowing it is happening. This is called a “silent rupture,” because only an MRI can detect when it happens. The FDA recommends women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI every two-to-three years for the life of their implants.

Breast Augmentation Without the Compromises

Women deal with stress every day, but there is no reason that it should be associated with plastic surgery. Whether you’re having breast surgery, a tummy tuck, or liposuction, cosmetic procedures can contribute to anxiety. Proactively working towards your cosmetic goals should make you feel excited and optimistic, but many women end up feeling nervous instead. Put a stop to the anxiety about a breast augmentation before it even begins. Do your best to educate yourself—understanding your options for breast implants will put you in the right direction towards calming your nerves.

Consider Your Implants

If you are concerned about a lack of breast tissue, breast symmetry, or want to return to your pre-pregnancy breast volume, you should research the different breast implant options available. With research and technological advances, breast implants are safer than ever. Breast implants are regulated by the FDA to ensure they are a safe product for patient use. There is no right or wrong choice when it comes to which type of implant you choose, but there are certain drawbacks of both saline implants and silicone gel implants that are important to consider.

  • Saline Implants – These implants are similar to a water balloon filled with sterile salt water. They provide a firm, uniform shape, and if they leak, you have no need to worry about adverse effects on your body. Saline implants can tend to wrinkle, and some people believe they do not closely resemble the feel of natural breast tissue.
  • Silicone Implants – A silicone gel-filled implant feels more like natural breast tissue because the silicone gel is more viscous than saline. Because of the risk of silent rupture, women should be aware of the need for periodic MRIs or ultrasounds to check for implant leaks in the future.

IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants

Women should not have to compromise when it comes to their options for breast implants in Lubbock. If you like the beauty and natural feel of silicone gel, but also want the peace of mind that comes with saline implants, then the IDEAL IMPLANT may be the right choice for you. This option features a series of saline-filled chambers, providing the implant with structure. This design gives the IDEAL IMPLANT a more natural look and feeling as movement of the saline is more controlled. The risk of sloshing, rippling, and wrinkling is minimized.

Because it is filled with saline, the IDEAL IMPLANT also eliminates the concerns of a rupture often associated with a silicone gel implant. If a rupture were to occur, it would be obvious just by looking at the breast. While the implant would still need to be removed, there would be no cause for alarm because the saline inside the implants can be safely absorbed into the body.

The benefits of the IDEAL IMPLANT don’t stop there. Other advantages over silicone gel implants include:

  • Lower risk of rupture
  • Lower risk of capsular contracture
  • No costly MRIs to monitor for rupture
  • Shorter incision length

Consider the Results

Once you feel comfortable with your choice of implant, there still may be other factors contributing to your anxiety. Thinking of your post surgery pain and recovery can also cause concern. If you can, talk with a friend who has already had breast augmentation. First-hand accounts of what to expect with your surgery will give you more information and ideas about what to discuss with your doctor. Then talk to your doctor and share your concerns so that your surgeon can explain expected recovery, pain, and the final results from your surgery. Sometimes what we fear the most is the unknown, so doing your due diligence will help to calm your nerves.

Consider Your Doctor

You have heard about the importance of choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon, but do you know why It’s so important? A board-certified plastic surgeon has graduated from medical school, completed years of surgical training, completed additional training for plastic surgery, and passed both oral and written exams. These surgeons are required to operate in an accredited facility. An experienced and certified doctor is the foundation to having the best possible experience with your plastic surgery. Having confidence in your plastic surgeon’s training, certification, and experience goes a long way in easing anxiety about your procedure.
