Why Women in Lubbock Consider Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery

The Mommy Makeover got its name from women who seek a combination of plastic surgery procedures to return to a physical look similar to the one they had pre-pregnancy. It is important to note that as you set your New Year’s goals to improve your physical health and appearance that a Mommy Makeover is not a one-size-fits-all approach. There are many aesthetic surgeries, and various combinations of those procedures, that can be applied to achieve your ideal look. Choosing the surgical combination that is best for you is done in partnership with your Lubbock surgeon to ensure the perfect fit for you and your 2017 goals. So, why consider the Mommy Makeover?

The Post-Pregnancy Body

We love our children, but we don’t always love what they have done to our bodies. The demands a pregnancy places on your body can cause irreversible stretching and scarring of the skin. The abdominal muscles can drop and separate. This result of muscle tone can create that muffin-top pooch you don’t like. Nursing mothers also experience drastic changes to their breasts. These changes don’t respond to exercise or diet.

What Can You Do?

The displaced muscles in your abdomen can be repaired and excess skin can be removed through abdominoplasty (a tummy tuck). Stubborn pockets of fat are taken out with liposuction. Breasts can be repositioned with a breast lift or have volume added with augmentation. You can carefully consult with your board-certified surgeon to know which procedures are best for your body type and cosmetic goals.

Your 2017 Goals

You’ll certainly want to keep the gym on the list because good health and stable weight are important for the success of any plastic surgery procedure. If you want to get beyond the post-pregnancy body, though, pairing time at the gym with time at our Lubbock office can help you achieve your 2017 goals. The first step is to reach out to our Lubbock office and schedule a no-obligation consultation with Dr. Jane Rowley. Women Aren’t the Only Ones— Men and Plastic Surgery

It is true that the vast majority of plastic surgery requests come from women, but there is an ever-growing request from men for similar surgical procedures. Whether you want to make sure you look as good as you feel or you simply want to treat yourself this year to a few desired improvements, plastic surgery may be the right option for you. If you are unsure of where to start, you can always give our Lubbock office a call and schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Jane Rowley. You can talk through your concerns with her, and she can advise you on the best options for reaching your cosmetic goals. Here are a few additional places to start for men considering plastic surgery:

  • Liposuction

That soft stomach that hangs over the top of your pants plagues both men and women. Liposuction is available to both men and women to address this concern. Liposuction is not a weight loss technique. Patients should be in good health and at a stable weight before applying liposuction as an additional tool for shaping and refining. Beyond the belly, the arms, hips, back, face, and legs can all benefit from liposuction as well.

  • Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction, can reduce the excess fat and skin of the breast. Combining this procedure with liposuction can achieve exceptional results. Particularly for male teenagers, the appearance of a female chest from excess fat and skin can be more than distressing. A restoration of tone in the chest area can improve both physical and emotional quality of life.

  • Neck Lifts and Chin Augmentation

Men typically have a well-defined jawline and a clean chin to neck connection. If this is lacking due to excess skin and fat on the neck or an abnormally small lower jaw projection, you may look older than you are or even less masculine in appearance. A neck lift can resolve that “turkey neck” look and can improve your quality of life by making dress shirts and ties more comfortable. This tuck can also make you look years younger. For those with insufficient jaw projection, a combination of adding a chin implant along with liposuction of the jawline can give a contoured and sculpted look of a strong masculine jaw.

Men also have options with eyelid rejuvenation (blepharoplasty), nose surgery (rhinoplasty), and much more. Americans are living longer with better quality of life than ever before, and aesthetic surgerys simply helps people look as good as they feel. So whether you are male or female, come to Rowley Plastic Surgery where you are in the good hands of leading surgeon Dr. Jane Rowley. A personal consultation with Dr. Rowley can give you the information you need to get started on your goals to look as good and as young as you feel.

Breast Lift— A New You in the New Year

People love to have fresh starts. A new year can mean we have another chance to do things differently, make changes, and progress in our lives. Part of a positive outlook is having renewed self-confidence. Some of that self-confidence can come from how we feel about our appearance. It is very common to start a year with goals of diet, health, and exercise. You may even add to those goals with ideas of plastic surgery. Lubbock patients with sagging breast will want to consider their options with a breast lift. No amount of diet or exercise can reverse the effects that age, nursing babies, or gravity have on your breasts.

What Can A Breast Lift Do?

A breast lift will reposition your breast tissue. Your nipple is also moved to a more forward place. Patients need to have realistic expectations for this surgery. A breast lift is different than a breast augmentation. The tightening of the skin and repositioning of breast tissue will give your breasts a more youthful appearance, but the surgery does not add volume like you have with implants. Some patients will choose to have a breast lift with implant plastic surgery. Lubbock women have the opportunity to honestly consult with Dr. Jane Rowley when making the decision which breast procedure is right for them.

Are You A Breast Lift Candidate?

If your breasts have become elongated and flattened over time, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. You may also notice that your nipples point downward. A breast lift will reshape and contour your breast, then remove excess skin to support a more upward position. Some things to consider before a breast lift:

  • Are your areolas enlarged?
  • Are you at a stable weight?
  • Do you smoke?
  • Are you in generally good health?
  • Do you have realistic expectations about the results of the surgery?

Your new year could include a breast lift or any other type of plastic surgery. Lubbock patients have the opportunity to experience the best plastic surgery options at Rowley Plastic Surgery with Dr. Jane Rowley. She will always take the time needed to consult carefully with her patients for the best surgical results. A Breast Reduction can Help Your New Year’s Exercise Goals

People are making New Year’s resolutions intended for better health and quality of life. One of the top goals made at New Year’s time is to exercise more. If you drive by your local gym, you will see the parking lot full of cars indicating the good intentions of the people inside. For women with larger sized breast, increasing their exercise isn’t an easy goal to make. New styles of sports bras can make exercise easier for some women, but others will still struggle with vigorous activities with larger breast.

Impact of Sports

Your breast is made up of breast tissue and fat held in place by the skin and connective tissue called Cooper ligaments. These ligaments are not strong. When you have large breasts and then participate in activities that make the breast repeatedly bounce or move back and forth, you can develop what is called jogger’s breast. This injury can be painful and lead to permanent stretching of the Cooper ligaments that will make your breasts droop.

Benefits of a Breast Reduction

Even women with smaller breasts can develop jogger’s breasts. The best way to avoid this injury is to wear a sports bra that provides adequate support to your chest. When you have more breast tissue than a sports bra can support, you can consider the benefits of a breast reduction. Removing excess fat, breast tissue, and skin can lighten the load on your chest and allow you to move and exercise more freely.
According to Dr. Jane Rowley, some of the happiest plastic surgery patients in Lubbock are women who have breast reductions. A breast reduction can give you greater self-confidence, easy in moving, and more proportional body shape. Lubbock Plastic Surgery Patients and Smoking

The effects of smoking on our lungs and the risks of cancer through tobacco and secondhand smoke exposure are fairly well-known and understood. But the dangers of smoking go beyond our lungs. Smoking introduces nicotine and carbon monoxide to the body which can cause blood vessels to restrict and can impact our tissue, both of which limit the flow of oxygen throughout our body. Oxygen is vital to the healing process, so getting insufficient oxygen during any healing period can result in complications and issues after surgery. Ultimately, patients who smoke can experience longer healing times and worsened scars. It is important for people planning to undergo plastic surgery to quit smoking well before scheduling a surgical procedure with our office in Lubbock. Plastic surgery patients are encouraged to stop smoking at least a few weeks before their scheduled surgery.

The Effects of Smoking

  • Smoking can lead to infections in the surgical wound. Smokers have higher rates of post-op infections.
  • Tobacco use can slow the healing process. Not only does this extend the recovery time, but it can also lead to issues in scarring.
  • Smoking introduces complications to circulation throughout the body leading to a deterioration of the skin during or after surgery.

Don’t Want to Quit?

The effects from smoking can cause serious complications. Some plastic surgeons will refuse scheduling procedures with people who smoke to avoid these risks. Other doctors will set strict parameters requiring patients to stop smoking for a specific amount of time before the surgery. These risks and restrictions may change depending on the procedure.

Quit Anyway

For patients in Lubbock, plastic surgery safety is of utmost importance to Dr. Jane Rowley. Patients should completely avoid smoking and nicotine patches and nicotine gum when preparing to undergo plastic surgery. You should continue to avoid smoking and other forms of nicotine during the recovery period as well.

A Chin Implant: Finding New Facial Definition

When we think about plastic surgery, we often think of breast implants or a tummy tuck, but a chin implant can have a tremendous impact in improving our appearance as well. Chin and cheek implants are often referred to together as facial implants, and they can help your face look younger and more balanced.

What Are Facial Implants?

Chin and cheek implants do for your face what breast implants might do for your body—they augment, reconstruct, or rejuvenate the facial shape. Our Lubbock office makes all shapes and sizes of these implants available to ensure the implants provide a balanced and proportional improvement to the face, not a manipulated or unnatural leap toward a false perfection.

Why Would I Get Facial Implants?

Science has shown that we define a face as beautiful when it is balanced and symmetrical. Faces that appear top-heavy due to a large forehead or nose may benefit from a chin implant to achieve greater balance. Facial implants can give an enhanced or stronger looking cheekbone or jawline. If you are losing contour or structure in your face due to aging, facial implants can repair this. And, anyone struggling with natural or injury caused asymmetry or deformities can find confidence through corrections provided by facial implants. Counseling with your board-certified surgeon is necessary for ensuring that you select the right procedure for your goals.

When considering surgery of any kind, it is important to be aware of the risks. Like all surgeries, there is a risk of post-surgical infection following a facial implant. Damage to facial nerves and musculature is possible. And, the structure or location of the implant may alter over time.

If you are looking for a new start this new year, whether it is breast implants or facial implants, give Dr. Jane Rowley a call today. She will spend the time needed to consult with each patient to make sure procedures and expectations are understood. You can then walk into any room with your chin held high in confidence with a chin implant.

The Ideal Implant— Another Option in Breast Augmentation

Have you heard of the “Ideal Implant”? It’s a new breast implant used in breast augmentation surgeries that can provide a natural look and feel without the concerns associated with silicone implants.

Silicone and Saline Options

  • Saline implants are typically known for having less of a natural look and feel than a silicone implant. They are also less expensive than silicone implants. A woman who is looking for larger breasts but wants a smaller incision will consider saline implants. Because of the shape of the implant and consistency of the saline, these implants can have a water balloon feel.
  • A silicone implant, on the other hand, is closer to a natural breast in appearance and touch. The silicone gel implants are FDA approved, but if ruptured, the implant and all leaked gel must be removed from the body. Unlike saline implants that visibly deflate when there is a leak, the FDA has advised women with silicone gel implants to get an MRI three years after the original surgery and then every other year after that to check for visually-undetectable leaks.

The New Ideal Implant

The Ideal Implant®  combines the best of both these worlds by providing a silicone look and feel with the safety of saline. The material in the Ideal Implant®  has improved strength, meaning it ruptures less often than other implants and holds its form better than other implants. It also requires a smaller incision for insertion and is easy to remove if needed.

How Does it Work?

A conventional saline implant has no structure, leaving the saline to move freely like a water balloon. The Ideal Implant® is filled with the same saline, but has a layered structure of multiple pockets to give it a natural structure and movement. These layers protect the breast augmentation from wrinkling or collapsing.
Find out more about the Ideal Implant®  by visiting Dr. Jane Rowley for a no-obligation consultation. Dr. Rowley is the only board-certified surgeon in Lubbock who offers breast augmentation with the Ideal implant® option. Learn more at rowleyplasticsurgery.com
