Choosing Between Non-invasive Fat Reduction and Liposuction in Lubbock

Wanting to look our best is something we all desire. With modern advances in science, medicine, and technology, there are many ways to achieve our cosmetic goals. The trick is knowing which methods to use. Plastic surgery is the gold standard for aesthetic improvements, but what if you don’t have time for surgery? Rowley Plastic Surgery offers many different surgical and non-surgical options for patients who want to improve their look. We can help you assess your goals and choose the right procedure for you.

Non-invasive Fat Reduction vs. Liposuction in Lubbock

It can be frustrating to discover certain areas of your body that seem to be diet- and exercise-resistant. In spite of personal efforts to thin the thighs or tone a stomach pooch after pregnancy, localized fat can feel impossible to target and permanently remove. In these cases, help can be found through non-invasive fat reduction or liposuction. Lubbock patients can choose either method to support their efforts with diet and exercise. Liposuction is a safe and effective way to reduce fat permanently and refine the body’s appearance. Recently, however, non-surgical or minimally invasive alternatives to liposuction have been growing in popularity as well.

What’s the Difference?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat through the suction of a hollow tube called a cannula. It requires the use of either local anesthetics or general anesthesia for patients with larger areas of fat to be removed. The surgery involves only a few small incisions and results are visible immediately. While patients can usually return to work after two to three days of recovery, compression garments are worn to help with swelling and healing for a period lasting from two to four weeks. Minor to moderate pain and swelling may last up to four to six weeks. Liposuction in Lubbock is more impactful with longer-lasting results than non-surgical approaches. It is especially effective on these areas:

  • Legs
  • Abdomen
  • Back / love handles
  • Upper arms
  • Face and neck

Non-invasive Procedures

Non-surgical procedures remove fat through a variety of methods including targeting the fat cells through cooling or radiofrequency. They can be particularly effective on the hips, thighs, buttocks, or abdomen. Although they cost less than liposuction, Lubbock patients find these methods to be less impactful than surgical approaches, with up to approximately a 25% reduction of fat in the treated area. Though patients feel slightly sore and swollen following the procedure, there is no downtime needed for recovery. Also unlike liposuction, the results of non-surgical procedures take time and multiple treatments.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure is one type of non-invasive fat reduction that laser heats fat deposits to destroy unwanted fat cells. You can expect to reduce fat by 20-25% in the treated area. It offers a non-surgical option with no post procedure pain or downtime, unlike liposuction. Lubbock patients who want body contouring without surgery can consider this as an option to help achieve cosmetic goals.

Which Is Right for Me?

Whether you are leaning towards non-invasive procedures or plastic surgery like liposuction, Lubbock board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jane Rowley recommends a personal consultation. Although the internet has a lot of information to offer, meeting with a qualified professional face-to-face is the best way to ensure you are getting the information you need to make the right decision for you and your body. If you feel you are at your ideal weight and have good skin elasticity and need some help targeting a few stubborn areas, non-surgical methods may be right for you. If you are looking to reduce a larger deposit of excess fat, liposuction may be an excellent option.

More Non-Invasive Options

Beyond fat removal, Dr. Rowley offers several other non-surgical cosmetic choices for her Lubbock patients. For those who wish to enhance their look without any downtime or recovery, these options may be beneficial.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing improves the appearance of your skin by carefully removing layers of skin with a pulsating beam of light. Resurfacing procedures treat:

  • Acne scars
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Age spots
  • Crow’s feet
  • Fine lines

Non-surgical Fillers

Dermal fillers are rejuvenation treatments that restore fullness to eyes, lips, and face. Injectable fillers can’t achieve the same results as an eyelid lift or facelift, but they can slow the effects of aging, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and improve the appearance of recessed scars. Restylane is a hyaluronic injection that also adds moisture to your skin for younger looking and feeling skin.

Whether you are interested in facial rejuvenation or liposuction in Lubbock, Dr. Jane Rowley will carefully listen to your questions and concerns so she can understand your personal cosmetic goals. At Rowley Plastic Surgery we offer a variety of surgical and non-surgical options for your individual aesthetic desires. We are here to help you have the best possible experience in gaining greater confidence in your physical appearance. Small Changes Equal Big Results With Plastic Surgery for Eyelids in Lubbock

When most people think of plastic surgery, they don’t usually picture procedures involving the eye area. But just like many other cosmetic changes, eyelid surgery can have a dramatic effect on the way you look and feel. Signs of aging can make an early appearance around the eyes, as the skin in that area is thin and more susceptible to wrinkles than other parts of the face. Your eyes should show who you are; not with lines, bags, or wrinkles, but with brightness and clarity. With plastic surgery for the eyelids, Lubbock men and women can turn the visible signs of aging into a fresher, more youthful look.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. You can elect to have the surgery for either functional or cosmetic reasons. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis often using local anesthetics with sedation.

Plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock is often referred to as an “eyelid lift,” however, this term is not entirely accurate. A small incision allows for the removal of skin or changing the amount of fat around the eye. This can be combined with a laser resurfacing of the eyelid skin which reduces existing lines and wrinkles. Even small changes can have dramatic results around the eyelid.

How is it Done?

The small incision is often made to the top of the eyelid where excess skin and fat are removed. The skin is then brought together with small stitches. This helps recreate the crease at the top of the lid. This procedure can also be performed with an incision at the bottom of the eyelid, just below the lash line, or on the inside of the eyelid. The placement of the incision on the inside of the lid, called a transconjunctival approach, allows for an invisible incision after healing from plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock. This method makes possible the removal or addition of fat to the eyelid without impacting the fold or look of the eyelid. For a better understanding of which surgical approach would be best for you, visit with Dr. Jane Rowley for a personal consultation with the information and counsel you need to make the best choice for you.

Why Have Eyelid Surgery?

An excess of skin or fat around the eye can make the eyelid heavy or puffy. This slightly extra visual weight around the eyes can age the look of your face and can even block the upper field of your vision. Removing skin and fat or adding fat can reshape the look of the eye. A tightening of the eyelid skin can correct sagginess. And both this contouring effort and tightening can be paired with the laser skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles and smooth skin texture.

Other Blepharoplasty Benefits

  • Improved Vision – Apart from cosmetic results, improved eyesight may be reason enough to pursue plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock. Significant drooping of the upper eyelid can impair vision. A slight lift of the brow and upper lid can remove the extra skin which causes the droop. Not only can this improve your line of sight, but some patients find that this correction relieves a strain in the brow muscles from constantly trying to raise the upper lid. If your vision is impaired by your upper eyelid, your insurance company may cover the costs of your plastic surgery.
  • Reduced Bags and Lines – By lifting the upper and lower lids, common signs of aging are corrected. Fine lines and bags around the eyes give a fatigued look even when you are well-rested. To enhance the results of plastic surgery for eyelids, Lubbock patients can also include skin rejuvenation treatments such as a chemical skin peel or medical facial to provide additional smoothing or to reduce the visibility of dark circles.

Recovering from Plastic Surgery for the Eyelids in Lubbock

Unlike other more involved surgeries, blepharoplasty can have a relatively short recovery time. The day after the surgery you will typically experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes, but these will reduce quickly, particularly if you regularly apply cool compresses to the eyes during the first 48 hours. You should be able to resume normal activity after ten days and experience a full recovery after two weeks with the majority of the bruising and swelling gone by then.

When it comes to plastic surgery for the eyelids, Lubbock patients can enjoy both functional and cosmetic improvements along with an overall refreshed appearance. Blepharoplasty can give your entire face a younger, healthier look. This procedure enhances the shape and appearance of your eyes which can have a noticeable impact on your image as a whole. Dr. Jane Rowley has more than 20 years of experience performing eyelid surgery and she always carefully consults with her patients to create the best surgical plan for them. Schedule your no-obligation consultation visit today and discover your cosmetic possibilities.

Breast Augmentation: A Popular Plastic Surgery Option

There are numerous plastic surgery options available nowadays, but breast augmentation continues to be the most popular choice. Recent data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) concluded that breast augmentation was the leading cosmetic surgical procedure in 2017, with 300,378 total procedures performed.

Why are so many women deciding to receive breast implants? The ASPS reports 98% percent of women say their breast augmentation results met or exceeded their expectations, with many seeing improved self-esteem and a better quality of life. So while breast augmentation has high patient satisfaction ratings, it is important for women to understand it is still a surgical procedure that comes with limitations.

Is Breast Augmentation Right For You?

Do you want breast implants, but no sure if you are a good candidate for breast augmentation? Wondering what to expect following breast augmentation recovery? The ASPS website says:

“Breast augmentation is a deeply personal procedure, and it’s important that you’re doing it for yourself and not for someone else, even if that person has offered to pay for it. Patient satisfaction is high, specifically when they want the procedure themselves. You may be a candidate for breast augmentation if:

  • You are physically healthy and you aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have realistic expectations
  • Your breasts are fully developed
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
  • You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss or with aging
  • You are unhappy with the upper part of your breast appearing “empty”
  • Your breasts are asymmetrical
  • One or both breasts failed to develop normally or have an elongated shape

If you’re considering surgery, spend some time reviewing breast augmentation photos and learning about what to expect during recovery. Preparation ahead of time helps patients have reasonable expectations and a smoother recovery.”

Discussing your Plastic Surgery Options with Dr. Rowley

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jane Rowley has extensive experience performing breast augmentation surgery. She understands that because every body is unique, each patient needs individualized care and a customized treatment plan designed just for them. She reminds her patients that no two women can achieve the same results, and that bodies respond differently, even to the same procedure. During the consultation process, Dr. Rowley also explains to her patients the various plastic surgery options that will best fit their body type and lifestyle. Dr. Rowley states:

“Most people who seek breast augmentation come in with an idea of what cup size they would like to be postoperatively. However, cup size is extremely variable and often depends on the manufacturer of the undergarment. I think it is very important to spend a long time talking to my patients about what size they think they want to be. We look at multiple photographs, go through sample implants together, and I have patients try them on. I find it is not uncommon for someone to come in and say they want to be a C-cup, but when we go over it together, they find they like a little larger appearance, or may smaller, once they’ve tried them on. I do not want to trivialize this operation, but from a technical surgical standpoint, it is a relatively simple operation to do. The most difficult, and important, aspect of this procedure is making sure the patient has clear expectations. A skilled surgeon can make your breasts larger, but we cannot make your breasts look like someone else’s breasts. This is why I feel spending a long time discussing size together before the procedure is so important.”

A Smooth Breast Augmentation Recovery

Dr. Rowley strives to provide a worry-free breast augmentation recovery experience for her patients. Her care doesn’t stop after surgery. She remains in contact with her patients to ensure they are healing properly and happy with their results. A Google review by Merina Lisman says:

“Dr. Jane is THE BEST! I have moved out of Lubbock, TX and still make the trip back to Dr. Jane Rowley whenever I have something done. I won’t go to anyone else! She’s an artist! You end up leaving her office looking so much better than you imagined. She makes you feel that your a friend and offers honest and straightforward information and advice. Her staff is also wonderful, attentive, kind, and compassionate. I actually enjoy going to her office. Love her and her staff!”

A patient testimonial on Facebook by Jennifer Williamson Busby reads:

“Dr. Jane Rowley and her staff are exceptional at providing patients with top notch care. As a patient since 2006, I have been continuously pleased with my visits and results from beginning to end. Dr. Jane is hands down the best around. Her experience, professionalism and attention to detail places her above the rest. The Best Breast Implants with a High Safety Profile

For years, women have only had two breast implant options—saline or silicone gel. Unfortunately, both choices come with downsides, forcing women to choose between the beauty they desire, and the security they deserve. But now, the latest in implant technology has brought about a new type of implant—the IDEAL IMPLANT®.

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

The IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant combines the benefits of both silicone gel and saline. It is comprised of a series of shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This unique design allows women to achieve the natural feel and realistic look that is commonly associated with silicone gel, yet offers the peace of mind that comes with saline.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is only available to plastic surgeons who are board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. As a board-certified plastic surgeon and an IDEAL IMPLANT Premier Surgeon, Dr. Jane Rowley is part of this exclusive group. She wants her patients to have access to all the best breast implants in the industry, and is committed to staying up-to-date on the newest products, procedures, and techniques in plastic surgery.

Breast Implant Safety Facts

Dr. Rowley makes sure her patients have all the information they need to make an informed decision before undergoing breast augmentation. She helps her patients understand the surgical process, and explains to them the breast implant safety aspects of each kind of implant. On fda.gov, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration states “some of the complications and adverse outcomes of breast implants include:

  • Additional surgeries, with or without removal of the device
  • Capsular contracture, scar tissue that forms around the implant and squeezes the implant
  • Breast pain
  • Changes in nipple and breast sensation
  • Rupture with deflation of saline-filled implants
  • Rupture with or without symptoms (silent rupture) of silicone gel-filled implants”

A Lower Risk with the IDEAL IMPLANT

A recent study compared the risk of rupture and capsular contracture of silicone gel implants to the IDEAL IMPLANT. The FDA trial data proved that women with the IDEAL IMPLANT have a lower risk of encountering these postoperative complications.

The statistics show the risk of rupture or deflation with the IDEAL IMPLANT at eight years after primary breast augmentation was only 2.1%. This was compared to Allergan Gel that came in at 7.4%, Mentor Gel at 13.6%, and Sientra Gel at 7.2%.

Regarding capsular contracture, those same three brands of silicone gel implants were found to have much higher risk rates than the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT rates of Baker Class III/IV capsular contracture at eight years after primary breast augmentation were at 6.6%, with Allergan Gel at 16.2% (seven years after), Mentor Gel at 10.9% (eight years after), and Sientra Gel at 11.2% (eight years after).

Learning the facts about breast implant safety can help you determine the best breast implants for your body. For more information about this study, watch the video below.

The Aftermath of a Rupture

When a saline implant or the IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, a woman’s body is able to absorb the sterile saltwater solution. She can instantly know her implant is no longer intact because it will be begin to deflate. When a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is referred to as a “silent rupture” since sticky silicone gel can leak into a woman’s body for years without her knowledge, requiring an MRI to detect rupture. That is why the FDA recommends all women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI the third year following primary augmentation, then every two years thereafter for the life of their implants. Dr. Rowley explains what women can expect when removing a ruptured implant:

“The nice thing about the IDEAL IMPLANT is you know that you have an implant in that’s going to be easy to remove, you’re going to know when it’s leaking, and it’s not going to interfere with your life in 10 or 20 or 30 years. There’s a big difference when removing a ruptured saline implant compared to removing a ruptured silicone gel implant … A ruptured saline implant can be removed easily with a local anesthetic. Silicone gel implants, if they’re not ruptured, it can come out that easily. But if they are ruptured, most of time it’s stuck, and it bleeds, and you have to put drains in. So it’s not an easy recovery, it’s not an easy surgery. With the saline implant, I can almost guarantee them ahead of time: ‘Your saline’s leaking, it will be easy to remove and replace. You’ll be back to work in a day or two at the most.’ Silicone implant I’ll say: ‘I don’t know what you’re recovery is going to be. It might come out easily, it might not come out easily. You might have to take a week off work. You might have to take two days off work.’”

Exploring Your Options for Breast Reconstruction in Lubbock

About one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. The good news is, it is treatable if detected early. Each individual patient will need to discuss treatment and recovery with her doctor. Breast reconstruction is an option that many patients consider to rebuild their breasts and help them feel like themselves again. The procedure consists of more than just a breast augmentation and it usually requires more than one surgery. With breast reconstruction, Lubbock patients can help restore their body physically and take significant steps toward emotional healing after mastectomy.

Restoring the Breasts With Implants

Women who have undergone mastectomy can choose to have their breasts reconstructed with implants. Implants are put into place immediately after the mastectomy procedure. Patients may have tissue expanders put in place to increase the space for future breast reconstruction. Lubbock women in need of mastectomy also have other options for a more natural breast reconstruction. Patients will need to consider their options carefully with the help of a board-certified plastic surgeon as part of the their full recovery from cancer.

Natural Breast Reconstruction Techniques

For a more natural breast reconstruction, Lubbock doctors perform a technique that uses a flap of the patient’s own tissue. The tissue has blood vessels, fat, and skin and sometimes muscle that is moved from elsewhere on the body to rebuild the breast. This can give a more natural feel and look to the reconstructed breast area. These flaps can be taken from different areas, including the stomach, inner thigh, buttocks, or the back of your body, depending on where your doctor feels is best. These flaps make breast reconstruction appear more natural and will even respond like the rest of your body, enlarging and shrinking if weight is gained or lost. Before this type of plastic surgery, your doctors will advise you of the risks and what to expect so you can know if this is the right type of breast reconstruction for you.

Immediate Reconstruction

Rebuilding the breasts at the time of the mastectomy is called immediate breast reconstruction. Lubbock patients benefit from this approach because it allows all of the surgical work to be performed at once as the plastic surgeon and the breast cancer surgeon coordinate their efforts. You may be a candidate for immediate reconstruction if you do not need additional treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy; if you are having a mastectomy as a preventative measure due to a high risk of breast cancer (a prophylactic mastectomy); and if you do not have diabetes, circulatory problems, or a bleeding disorder.

Delayed Reconstruction

If a reconstructive surgery is postponed until you have had time for a full recovery of your mastectomy, it is referred to as a delayed reconstruction. If some reconstructive surgery is performed at the time of the mastectomy but is completed later with plastic surgery, it is called a delayed-immediate reconstruction. Unlike a breast reduction or implant independent of a mastectomy, the priority for your body is ensuring the cancer is completely treated. If a delay in reconstruction is necessary, take comfort in knowing that the health of your body is the top priority of your health care providers.

Is Breast Reconstruction in Lubbock Covered?

Breast reconstruction is considered to be part of the medical treatment of breast cancer patients. The law requires insurance companies to cover the costs of breast reconstruction even if you decide to have the procedure years after your mastectomy. While this is great news for patients, there are some exceptions. Health plans sponsored by the government or some churches may not cover breast reconstruction. Lubbock patients should always check with their insurance carrier to get a full understanding of their benefits.

Choosing What’s Best For You

Ultimately the choice of whether to get reconstructive plastic surgery is a decision you should make based on how you feel about your body and what helps you heal completely. It is something you can choose much later after your mastectomy, so there is no need to rush into it. Healing emotionally after breast cancer is just as important as healing physically, and breast reconstruction in Lubbock may be part of that healing or may need to come after other cancer treatments. Your health care providers will be able to guide you in knowing what your options are for reconstruction and support you through the process.

Whatever options you choose for your breasts after your recovery, reconstructive breast surgery is a personal choice between a patient and her doctor. Plastic surgery could be just what you need to feel completely recovered from the experience of breast cancer. Dr. Jane Rowley and her staff have the compassion and the experience patients deserve when they need help with difficult choices. At Rowley Plastic Surgery, you can trust that you are in the best possible care. Schedule a no-obligation consultation today to explore your breast reconstruction options.

Your FAQs Answered by the Best Plastic Surgeon in Lubbock

Each plastic surgery candidate is unique and has different needs, goals, and expectations. But patients considering cosmetic procedures often have the same types of questions. There is no harm in doing research online, but it is important to talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon you trust to get the accurate information you need. Banking on unreliable sources could lead you in the wrong direction and can end up being detrimental to your surgical experience.

Your decision whether or not to have a surgical procedure requires good information and knowledge. The more you know about a procedure and its expected outcome and recovery, the better your experience will be. The first key to having a positive experience with plastic surgery is finding the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock for you, and asking them the questions you feel are important for your understanding. Some of the most commonly asked questions include the following:

Is Plastic Surgery Safe?

All surgery has risks. Always discuss with your doctor your medical history and ask about the specific risk factors of the procedure you are planning. For patients in good overall health and who follow their doctor’s instructions, plastic surgery does not have any unique risks over other surgeries. Complete disclosure to your doctor of your previous or current medical conditions and any prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements you may be taking is a crucial part of ensuring your safety.

Another important element for your safety is the qualification of your plastic surgeon. Board-certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is a must. When looking for the best plastic surgeon, Lubbock patients should make sure their doctor has the experience and training necessary to perform their specific procedure. Positive referrals from trustworthy sources can be very helpful in finding a surgeon who can provide you with high quality care.

What Makes a Good Plastic Surgery Candidate?

With any plastic surgery, a patient should be in good health, not smoke, and carefully consult with his or her doctor. Your plastic surgery candidacy will also depend on specific factors associated with the procedure you are planning. If you are interested in breast augmentation, you will need to discuss your body size, breast tissue, and breast skin with your doctor. Patients who want procedures like liposuction will have their skin elasticity and muscle tone evaluated to determine their candidacy. Having a positive outlook and realistic goals and expectations are important for any patient considering plastic surgery.

Will My Insurance Cover the Costs?

Most plastic surgeries are considered elective, and even great insurance does not usually pay for procedures that are not considered medically necessary. Check with your insurance policy to know what your payment options are. Some plastic surgery procedures are covered by insurances. If you are interested in a nose job, breast reduction, or eyelid surgery, you may be covered by insurance if the procedure is needed for medical reasons. It is always important to check with your insurance company before having any medical treatment or procedure to clearly understand what your benefits are. Always discuss with your doctor expected expenses and payment options and expectations before treatment.

What are My Payment Options?

If an out of pocket payment sounds scary, then consider a credit option. The cosmetic boost you are wanting just might be more than the budget can handle with an all at once, one time payment. Most doctors have policies that require payment to be made in full at or before the time of service. Even the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock is not set up to keep track of payments and balances like a credit company would.

Many patients find their plastic surgery payment to be more manageable with CareCredit. CareCredit is a credit card that is specifically designed for procedures and treatments that are not generally covered under a medical insurance plan. This card is a little different than a regular credit card, as it has no-interest payment plans and a variety of payoff options. CareCredit offers short repayment times giving you the ability to manage your healthcare costs better. Visit their site for more information.

What Factors Impact the Success of My Surgery?

Each patient is an individual case for plastic surgery. There are a wide variety of factors that play into the outcome of your procedure. Searching “Plastic Surgeons Near Me”

The Internet is a great resource with loads of information on any given topic. A simple search of “plastic surgeons near me” will bring up multiple doctors in your area. While those hits are a good starting point, it is vital to further research the right fit for you.

It is especially important to work with a plastic surgeon that is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. According to www.abplasticsurgery.org, plastic surgeons that have “met high standards in training requirements and successfully passed the examinations covering the breadth of plastic surgery” can be eligible for certification. The website further explains “the mission of The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification and maintenance of certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists . . . the purpose of the Board is to evaluate the education, training, and knowledge of broadly competent and responsible plastic surgeons.”

Dr. Jane Rowley and the IDEAL IMPLANT

Dr. Jane Rowley, at Rowley Plastic Surgery in Lubbock, TX, is part of this exclusive group of board-certified plastic surgeons, making her eligible to offer the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is a new, innovative type of implant that combines the natural feel of silicone gel with the peace of mind of saline.

Women are often familiar with silicone gel or saline breast implants. Silicone gel implants are known for their realistic look, yet inherently come with the risk of “silent rupture.” Only detectable by MRI, this kind of rupture occurs when sticky silicone gel begins to leak into the surrounding tissues of a woman’s body without her knowledge. Surgery is then required to clean out the leaked gel and remove the ruptured implant. For this reason, the FDA recommends that women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI scan three years following their breast augmentation, then every two years following.

If a saline implant ruptures, a woman’s body will harmlessly absorb the sterile saltwater solution. And while this security is invaluable to many women, saline implants can move and behave like a water balloon due to no internal structure. This creates a less-than-natural feel and can cause wrinkling or rippling of the skin. Yet saline implants were once the only alternative for women worried about the risk of “silent rupture.”

But now, women no longer have to choose between the beauty they desire with the confidence they deserve. The IDEAL IMPLANT is a third breast implant option that combines the advantages, without the drawbacks, of both silicone gel and saline. It is made up of a series of implant shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This advanced internal structure:

  • Provides a youthful shape and projection
  • Creates a natural feel and realistic look
  • Controls the movement of the saline to mitigate sloshing
  • Reduces wrinkling and rippling
  • Gives support to the upper portion of the implant to prevent collapse when upright
  • Carries no risk of “silent rupture”

Tone Up Your Arms With an Arm Lift in Lubbock

Americans seem to be increasingly interested in looking younger and more beautiful all the time. Popular diets, fitness trends, and plastic surgery play a huge role in what we see on social media as well as everyday lifestyles. In Lubbock, you can also see a growing emphasis on losing weight and being healthy.

The extreme at the other end of the spectrum is the growing rate of obesity in America. When weight gain gets out of control and is beyond the aid of diet and exercise, some people turn to more drastic measures for help. When weight has been high and is then quickly lost, the body ends up with stretched out loose skin. But weight loss isn’t the only culprit behind saggy skin. Excess skin can become loose as a result of age or heredity. An arm lift in Lubbock—or brachioplasty—can have a dramatic effect on the right patient to tone and reshape the upper arms.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Do you avoid wearing arm revealing clothing because you don’t like the way your upper arms look? Do you refuse to wave your arms because you’re self-conscious of the skin that hangs down? If the answer is yes, brachioplasty could be of great benefit to you. If you meet the criteria below, you may be a good candidate for the procedure.

  • You have excess arm skin due to significant weight loss or aging
  • You do not smoke or are willing to commit to a nicotine-free lifestyle before and after surgery
  • You are committed to a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a well-balanced diet
  • Your general health is good, and you have no medical conditions that would increase risks
  • Your weight is relatively stable and in a healthy range

Brachioplasty does leave a scar running down the underside of the arm which will be visible when the arms are lifted or exposed. A good candidate for the procedure will have a significant amount of extra skin hanging down. Your surgeon will be able to tell you if your arms would benefit from an arm lift in Lubbock. It is important to remember that any plastic surgery is not a substitute for a healthy diet or routine exercise. Instead it provides a supplement to achieve your desired body shape when  you already maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What Happens During Surgery?

On the day of your surgery, you will be administered general anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin from the underside of your arms through an incision that runs from the elbow to the underarm. The length of the resulting scar will depend on how much skin and fat had to be removed.

Often the process of tightening the arm skin is paired with liposuction to remove fat deposits in the same area. Consult with your doctor to decide if adding liposuction to your arm lift will help you achieve your desired results. There are no drains for brachioplasty patients and the sutures are absorbable.

The Results

For the best possible results, you will want the best plastic surgeon. Lubbock patients should seek for a doctor who is highly skilled, board-certified, and has plenty of experience. After an arm lift, your arms will look smoother and more toned. The results will be evident immediately following your procedure, but may take 6-8 weeks to be completely visible. Some patients express concern about the extent of scarring from an arm lift. The placement of the incision, the skill of your doctor, and the neatness of the closure will all have an effect on the appearance of scarring.  The changes in your arms may seem subtle on their own, but your body will look more youthful and slender overall after your brachioplasty procedure.

Recovering From an Arm Lift in Lubbock

Arm lifts typically take less time in the operating room than more extensive surgeries like breast augmentation. The procedure takes about one hour on an outpatient basis. Patients usually have compression bandages on for about two weeks to help minimize swelling. Most people can expect to resume regular activities in about five to seven days.

A Complete Guide to Getting a Tummy Tuck in Lubbock

There is no substitute for feeling great about the way you look. It’s human nature to want to look your best, and more often than not, it’s not about vanity. It’s about confidence. When you feel confident about your outward appearance, it has positive effects on your inner self. As we age or experience pregnancies or weight loss, our bodies are changed in permanent ways. And, flabby excess skin will not go away not matter how much you diet or exercise.

When you carry around an extra load of saggy skin, it can affect your self-esteem as you become increasingly unhappy about the contour of your body. If you feel frustrated when your best efforts don’t yield the results you want, it might be time to consider a tummy tuck in Lubbock. A tummy tuck isn’t a weight loss surgery but rather a procedure to remove excess skin and improve your quality of life. It is a great support to your weight loss goals and healthy habits.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty, better known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure for removing up to 10 pounds of skin from a patient’s abdominal area. Weakened and separated abdominal muscles are tightened and repaired during surgery as well. Tummy tucks are also often paired with liposuction to further enhance the contouring effects.

Things To Consider Before Your Surgery

A Tummy tuck is a major surgery and should be considered carefully with plenty of education and counsel from Dr. Jane Rowley. During your preliminary evaluation with Dr. Rowley, she will prepare you for what to expect, and ensure your health and body are right for plastic surgery in Lubbock. Plan to discuss the following topics:

  • Your weight – Tummy tucks don’t require a certain number on the scale, but you should be close to your goal weight. It is important that you are able to maintain a stable weight to keep your surgical results intact.
  • Your eating habits – A healthy and sustainable diet is essential for a healthy recovery and lasting results.
  • Whether you smoke – If you do, consider quitting or make a plan to stop for a while because nicotine can interfere with the healing process. Expect to refrain from smoking, nicotine patches, and nicotine gum for several weeks before and after the surgery.

What Happens During a Tummy Tuck?

Surgery is performed with the use of general anesthetics. A standard tummy tuck in Lubbock begins with a horizontal incision running between the hip bones. The plastic surgeon lifts the skin and tightens the abdominal muscles underneath. The extra skin is removed and the navel is repositioned to match the new shape of your tummy. Surgery is wrapped up with the closure of incisions.

Tummy tucks can address varying degrees of hanging skin; some people’s excess skin is only beneath the belly button and others have flab that extends all the way around their back. Depending on how extensive your surgery is, it can take anywhere from one to five hours. You will need a driver to take you home.

Planning For Recovery

You should not spend your first night alone, make sure you have someone to help you throughout the night. Your incision will be stitched and bandaged. It is important that you follow Dr. Rowley’s specific care instructions to ensure a healthy recovery. Moving will be tough during your recovery. Plan on wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. Make sure your phone is in reach if you need it. A hand-held shower head and bathroom chair are ideal.

Plan for several weeks of recovery, and take off plenty of time from work for an uninterrupted recovery time. Too much activity following the surgery before you are completely healed can complicate your recovery. Give you body the time it needs to rest and heal.

Look and Feel Better With a Tummy Tuck in Lubbock

Patients who have lost significant amounts of weight can feel happy about the weight loss but discouraged about the saggy stomach skin that is left behind. Getting rid of that extra skin gives your body the flatter tummy you had hoped to have after your weight loss. A tummy tuck will strengthen your body’s core and improve your posture. Extreme weight loss or c-section surgeries can lead to a lapse in muscle control that can lead to hernias. A tummy tuck in Lubbock can also repair ventral hernias and improve bladder control. The procedure is about more than just flattening your belly – it’s a surgery for repair and healing.

Getting the Most Out of Your Liposuction in Lubbock

We all know it takes time to see the results that come from working hard at the gym and staying on top of your diet. But what do you do when your healthy habits don’t ever produce the results you want? If you feel frustrated that your efforts to take care of yourself aren’t making a difference in your appearance, consider liposuction in Lubbock as a possible solution. The effects of age, childbearing, and genetics often cause people to develop stubborn areas of fat on their bodies. This fat can be resistant to even the strictest diet and exercise routines, which is disheartening for many people. Liposuction alone can make a great difference in the contour of your body, but it also works well combined with other procedures for a more dramatic effect.

How Liposuction Works

Liposuction removes excess fat to enhance the contour of your body. Your doctor will insert a thin tube (or cannula) into the area of fat through a small incision. Fat cells are broken up and suctioned out to reveal a smoother overall body shape. The procedure is not meant to be a weight loss surgery. The main goal is to give the patient a slimmer frame by targeting those specific areas of localized fat when that don’t respond to diet and exercise.

If you have just a limited area of troublesome fat, your liposuction procedure may require only local anesthetics at an outpatient appointment. Patients with more significant areas of fat may need general anesthesia for their procedure at a surgical facility. Recovery time varies from person to person, but you should expect to take 2-3 days off work. A full return to normal activity after liposuction in Lubbock can take up to 4-6 weeks.

Tighten With a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is best known for helping to reduce sagging skin around the abdomen. It is also a significant procedure that involves the entire core of the body. A tummy tuck not only gets rid of loose skin but also tightens and contours the abdominal wall and muscles. For the right patient, the results can be exceptional. It is common for patients to consider having liposuction performed in tandem with a tummy tuck for even greater cosmetic effect.

Patients who have gone through drastic weight loss can be left with sagging skin around the thighs, hips, and buttocks. Imagine having finally lost a significant amount of weight and still feeling self-conscious about your body because of leftover flabby skin. It might be easy to slip back into old habits if you continue to struggle with body image. Performing liposuction with a tummy tuck corrects both the flabby skin and any remaining stubborn fat. The combination has a powerful effect to help improve the appearance of these patients’ appearance at their new weight.

Mommy Makeover Options Include Liposuction in Lubbock

Childbirth is an exciting and emotionally fulfilling life event, but it is frequently followed by women’s diminished satisfaction with their bodies. With proven surgical techniques, a post-childbirth body can regain the firm, youthful look it once had. A mommy makeover is not just one procedure but an individualized combination of plastic surgery options. The goal of this Lubbock plastic surgery is to change the effects of childbirth on a woman’s body. After pregnancy and nursing, stomach muscles weaken and abdominal skin loosens and sags. Some women’s breasts can lose volume and look deflated, while others suffer from uncomfortably large breasts. Often a woman’s body can have stubborn pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. A few procedures that work well together to improve the appearance of areas of concern after childbearing include:

  • Liposuction
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Breast Augmentation
  • Breast Lift
  • Breast Reduction

It’s important to communicate clearly with your doctor about your expectations for your surgical outcome. Your surgeon will advise you as to which procedures will work best for your body type. If you are thinking about a mommy makeover, make sure you are in good health, are at a stable weight, and have realistic expectations of your results. We can’t completely stop the effects of aging or life changes on our bodies, but combining procedures for a mommy makeover can help restore confidence in your post-pregnancy body.
