Small Changes Equal Big Results With Plastic Surgery for Eyelids in Lubbock

When most people think of plastic surgery, they don’t usually picture procedures involving the eye area. But just like many other cosmetic changes, eyelid surgery can have a dramatic effect on the way you look and feel. Signs of aging can make an early appearance around the eyes, as the skin in that area is thin and more susceptible to wrinkles than other parts of the face. Your eyes should show who you are; not with lines, bags, or wrinkles, but with brightness and clarity. With plastic surgery for the eyelids, Lubbock men and women can turn the visible signs of aging into a fresher, more youthful look.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. You can elect to have the surgery for either functional or cosmetic reasons. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis often using local anesthetics with sedation.

Plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock is often referred to as an “eyelid lift,” however, this term is not entirely accurate. A small incision allows for the removal of skin or changing the amount of fat around the eye. This can be combined with a laser resurfacing of the eyelid skin which reduces existing lines and wrinkles. Even small changes can have dramatic results around the eyelid.

How is it Done?

The small incision is often made to the top of the eyelid where excess skin and fat are removed. The skin is then brought together with small stitches. This helps recreate the crease at the top of the lid. This procedure can also be performed with an incision at the bottom of the eyelid, just below the lash line, or on the inside of the eyelid. The placement of the incision on the inside of the lid, called a transconjunctival approach, allows for an invisible incision after healing from plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock. This method makes possible the removal or addition of fat to the eyelid without impacting the fold or look of the eyelid. For a better understanding of which surgical approach would be best for you, visit with Dr. Jane Rowley for a personal consultation with the information and counsel you need to make the best choice for you.

Why Have Eyelid Surgery?

An excess of skin or fat around the eye can make the eyelid heavy or puffy. This slightly extra visual weight around the eyes can age the look of your face and can even block the upper field of your vision. Removing skin and fat or adding fat can reshape the look of the eye. A tightening of the eyelid skin can correct sagginess. And both this contouring effort and tightening can be paired with the laser skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles and smooth skin texture.

Other Blepharoplasty Benefits

  • Improved Vision – Apart from cosmetic results, improved eyesight may be reason enough to pursue plastic surgery for eyelids in Lubbock. Significant drooping of the upper eyelid can impair vision. A slight lift of the brow and upper lid can remove the extra skin which causes the droop. Not only can this improve your line of sight, but some patients find that this correction relieves a strain in the brow muscles from constantly trying to raise the upper lid. If your vision is impaired by your upper eyelid, your insurance company may cover the costs of your plastic surgery.
  • Reduced Bags and Lines – By lifting the upper and lower lids, common signs of aging are corrected. Fine lines and bags around the eyes give a fatigued look even when you are well-rested. To enhance the results of plastic surgery for eyelids, Lubbock patients can also include skin rejuvenation treatments such as a chemical skin peel or medical facial to provide additional smoothing or to reduce the visibility of dark circles.

Recovering from Plastic Surgery for the Eyelids in Lubbock

Unlike other more involved surgeries, blepharoplasty can have a relatively short recovery time. The day after the surgery you will typically experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes, but these will reduce quickly, particularly if you regularly apply cool compresses to the eyes during the first 48 hours. You should be able to resume normal activity after ten days and experience a full recovery after two weeks with the majority of the bruising and swelling gone by then.

When it comes to plastic surgery for the eyelids, Lubbock patients can enjoy both functional and cosmetic improvements along with an overall refreshed appearance. Blepharoplasty can give your entire face a younger, healthier look. This procedure enhances the shape and appearance of your eyes which can have a noticeable impact on your image as a whole. Dr. Jane Rowley has more than 20 years of experience performing eyelid surgery and she always carefully consults with her patients to create the best surgical plan for them. Breast Augmentation: A Popular Plastic Surgery Option

There are numerous plastic surgery options available nowadays, but breast augmentation continues to be the most popular choice. Recent data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) concluded that breast augmentation was the leading cosmetic surgical procedure in 2017, with 300,378 total procedures performed.

Why are so many women deciding to receive breast implants? The ASPS reports 98% percent of women say their breast augmentation results met or exceeded their expectations, with many seeing improved self-esteem and a better quality of life. So while breast augmentation has high patient satisfaction ratings, it is important for women to understand it is still a surgical procedure that comes with limitations.

Is Breast Augmentation Right For You?

Do you want breast implants, but no sure if you are a good candidate for breast augmentation? Wondering what to expect following breast augmentation recovery? The ASPS website says:

“Breast augmentation is a deeply personal procedure, and it’s important that you’re doing it for yourself and not for someone else, even if that person has offered to pay for it. Patient satisfaction is high, specifically when they want the procedure themselves. You may be a candidate for breast augmentation if:

  • You are physically healthy and you aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have realistic expectations
  • Your breasts are fully developed
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
  • You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss or with aging
  • You are unhappy with the upper part of your breast appearing “empty”
  • Your breasts are asymmetrical
  • One or both breasts failed to develop normally or have an elongated shape

If you’re considering surgery, spend some time reviewing breast augmentation photos and learning about what to expect during recovery. Preparation ahead of time helps patients have reasonable expectations and a smoother recovery.”

Discussing your Plastic Surgery Options with Dr. Rowley

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jane Rowley has extensive experience performing breast augmentation surgery. She understands that because every body is unique, each patient needs individualized care and a customized treatment plan designed just for them. She reminds her patients that no two women can achieve the same results, and that bodies respond differently, even to the same procedure. During the consultation process, Dr. Rowley also explains to her patients the various plastic surgery options that will best fit their body type and lifestyle. Dr. Rowley states:

“Most people who seek breast augmentation come in with an idea of what cup size they would like to be postoperatively. However, cup size is extremely variable and often depends on the manufacturer of the undergarment. I think it is very important to spend a long time talking to my patients about what size they think they want to be. We look at multiple photographs, go through sample implants together, and I have patients try them on. I find it is not uncommon for someone to come in and say they want to be a C-cup, but when we go over it together, they find they like a little larger appearance, or may smaller, once they’ve tried them on. I do not want to trivialize this operation, but from a technical surgical standpoint, it is a relatively simple operation to do. The most difficult, and important, aspect of this procedure is making sure the patient has clear expectations. A skilled surgeon can make your breasts larger, but we cannot make your breasts look like someone else’s breasts. This is why I feel spending a long time discussing size together before the procedure is so important.”

A Smooth Breast Augmentation Recovery

Dr. Rowley strives to provide a worry-free breast augmentation recovery experience for her patients. Her care doesn’t stop after surgery. She remains in contact with her patients to ensure they are healing properly and happy with their results. A Google review by Merina Lisman says:

“Dr. Jane is THE BEST! I have moved out of Lubbock, TX and still make the trip back to Dr. Jane Rowley whenever I have something done. I won’t go to anyone else! She’s an artist! You end up leaving her office looking so much better than you imagined. She makes you feel that your a friend and offers honest and straightforward information and advice. Her staff is also wonderful, attentive, kind, and compassionate. I actually enjoy going to her office. Love her and her staff!”

A patient testimonial on Facebook by Jennifer Williamson Busby reads:

“Dr. Jane Rowley and her staff are exceptional at providing patients with top notch care. As a patient since 2006, I have been continuously pleased with my visits and results from beginning to end. Dr. Jane is hands down the best around. Her experience, professionalism and attention to detail places her above the rest. Her fabulous staff, Mitzi, Sandy, Nancy, Erin, Kelli and Kendra always go above and beyond to provide excellent care. Personalizing Your Breast Augmentation in Lubbock

Breast implants come in many sizes and shapes so you can choose the right look and style to fit your individual body type, personality, and aesthetic goals. The size of your implants is perhaps the most obvious decision you will have to make, yet there are several other aspects about your implants that can be personalized. The variety of choices is a good thing for patients having breast augmentation in Lubbock, but it can begin to feel overwhelming. Understanding your options is the first step to making sure you get the results you want from plastic surgery. It is also important to talk to your surgeon and discuss your expectations so you are completely understood before your breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Trends

Hollywood used to give us the impression that breast augmentation was only for women who wanted very large, round breasts. Today, most women get breast implants to enhance their natural femininity and want to avoid an artificial or fake appearance. Because of this, smaller, more natural-looking implants are increasing in popularity. Many of our patients lead busy, active lifestyles and they need their breast implants to complement the way they live. Before having breast augmentation in Lubbock, your surgeon will want you to consider your body shape and think about the breast implant size and shape that suits you. With the help of your surgeon, you can choose a breast implant size and shape that will be the perfect fit.

Breast Implant Shape

Round breast implants are the most popular implants women choose for breast augmentation in Lubbock. They can be filled with saline or silicone gel. These implants also have different projection styles. Round implants give more cleavage and lift for women. This lift is in both the lower and upper region of the breast where the breast generally doesn’t have fullness without implants. Some people feel implants with upper lift can appear less natural, but depending on your figure and preferences, they could be the right choice for you.

Breast implants also come in teardrop shape. These implants have a slope to them so they are more filled out on the bottom of the breast, which resembles the shape of a natural breast. These breast implants have a textured surface that will help keep them in place while healing so they do not rotate and look distorted. Talk to your doctor about teardrop-shaped breast implants to see if they can give you a more natural look with subtle enhancement.

Surgical Options for Breast Augmentation in Lubbock

You will have two different options for the placement of your implant in conjunction with your own tissue and muscle. Submuscular placement puts the implant underneath the chest muscle. Breast implants that are beneath the pectoral muscle can look more natural, as the overlying muscle helps create the slope that real breasts have. Mammograms are also easier to read with breast implants under the muscle. Recovery from this type of breast augmentation in Lubbock may require a little more time than if your implants were placed over the muscle, but the more natural look and feel might just be worth it for you.

The placement of breast Implants over the chest muscle is called subglandular placement. With this type of procedure, your implants may appear more visible. Studies have found higher rates of capsular contracture in patients with subglandular placement as well. Your breast enhancement goals, body type, and the type of implant all contribute to this decision, so talk to your doctor about which type of placement is best for you.

Consider Your Motivation

Maybe you have lost some weight and your breast size is now smaller. Or, maybe your body shape allows clothes to fit well around your hips but fits too loosely around your chest. Perhaps you feel your breast size is too small in proportion to the rest of your body. Maybe you feel your breasts are noticeably smaller than those of other women. Some women have noticeable asymmetry in their breasts. Breast implants can solve all of these issues. If you can clearly explain your concerns to your doctor, you will have a better chance of correcting the problems and getting the results you want.

Experienced Breast Augmentation in Lubbock

Breast augmentation is the most popular plastic surgery procedure for good reason. It can enhance the beauty of your feminine look and give you more confidence in your everyday life. If you have realistic expectations for your results and are in relatively good health, breast implants may provide that cosmetic boost you are looking for. Try not to let the variety of breast augmentation options overwhelm you; let us help you understand your choices and guide you to finding your perfect look. Schedule your no-obligation consultation today to discover the possibilities of breast augmentation in Lubbock.

The Best Breast Implants with a High Safety Profile

For years, women have only had two breast implant options—saline or silicone gel. Unfortunately, both choices come with downsides, forcing women to choose between the beauty they desire, and the security they deserve. But now, the latest in implant technology has brought about a new type of implant—the IDEAL IMPLANT®.

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

The IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant combines the benefits of both silicone gel and saline. It is comprised of a series of shells nested together that hold two separate chambers filled with saline. This unique design allows women to achieve the natural feel and realistic look that is commonly associated with silicone gel, yet offers the peace of mind that comes with saline.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is only available to plastic surgeons who are board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. As a board-certified plastic surgeon and an IDEAL IMPLANT Premier Surgeon, Dr. Jane Rowley is part of this exclusive group. She wants her patients to have access to all the best breast implants in the industry, and is committed to staying up-to-date on the newest products, procedures, and techniques in plastic surgery.

Breast Implant Safety Facts

Dr. Rowley makes sure her patients have all the information they need to make an informed decision before undergoing breast augmentation. She helps her patients understand the surgical process, and explains to them the breast implant safety aspects of each kind of implant. On fda.gov, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration states “some of the complications and adverse outcomes of breast implants include:

  • Additional surgeries, with or without removal of the device
  • Capsular contracture, scar tissue that forms around the implant and squeezes the implant
  • Breast pain
  • Changes in nipple and breast sensation
  • Rupture with deflation of saline-filled implants
  • Rupture with or without symptoms (silent rupture) of silicone gel-filled implants”

A Lower Risk with the IDEAL IMPLANT

A recent study compared the risk of rupture and capsular contracture of silicone gel implants to the IDEAL IMPLANT. The FDA trial data proved that women with the IDEAL IMPLANT have a lower risk of encountering these postoperative complications.

The statistics show the risk of rupture or deflation with the IDEAL IMPLANT at eight years after primary breast augmentation was only 2.1%. This was compared to Allergan Gel that came in at 7.4%, Mentor Gel at 13.6%, and Sientra Gel at 7.2%.

Regarding capsular contracture, those same three brands of silicone gel implants were found to have much higher risk rates than the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT rates of Baker Class III/IV capsular contracture at eight years after primary breast augmentation were at 6.6%, with Allergan Gel at 16.2% (seven years after), Mentor Gel at 10.9% (eight years after), and Sientra Gel at 11.2% (eight years after).

Learning the facts about breast implant safety can help you determine the best breast implants for your body. For more information about this study, watch the video below.

The Aftermath of a Rupture

When a saline implant or the IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, a woman’s body is able to absorb the sterile saltwater solution. She can instantly know her implant is no longer intact because it will be begin to deflate. When a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is referred to as a “silent rupture” since sticky silicone gel can leak into a woman’s body for years without her knowledge, requiring an MRI to detect rupture. That is why the FDA recommends all women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI the third year following primary augmentation, then every two years thereafter for the life of their implants. Dr. Rowley explains what women can expect when removing a ruptured implant:

“The nice thing about the IDEAL IMPLANT is you know that you have an implant in that’s going to be easy to remove, you’re going to know when it’s leaking, and it’s not going to interfere with your life in 10 or 20 or 30 years. There’s a big difference when removing a ruptured saline implant compared to removing a ruptured silicone gel implant … A ruptured saline implant can be removed easily with a local anesthetic. Silicone gel implants, if they’re not ruptured, it can come out that easily. But if they are ruptured, most of time it’s stuck, and it bleeds, and you have to put drains in. So it’s not an easy recovery, it’s not an easy surgery. With the saline implant, I can almost guarantee them ahead of time: ‘Your saline’s leaking, it will be easy to remove and replace. You’ll be back to work in a day or two at the most.’ Silicone implant I’ll say: ‘I don’t know what you’re recovery is going to be. It might come out easily, it might not come out easily. You might have to take a week off work. You might have to take two days off work.’”

Exploring Your Options for Breast Reconstruction in Lubbock

About one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. The good news is, it is treatable if detected early. Each individual patient will need to discuss treatment and recovery with her doctor. Breast reconstruction is an option that many patients consider to rebuild their breasts and help them feel like themselves again. The procedure consists of more than just a breast augmentation and it usually requires more than one surgery. With breast reconstruction, Lubbock patients can help restore their body physically and take significant steps toward emotional healing after mastectomy.

Restoring the Breasts With Implants

Women who have undergone mastectomy can choose to have their breasts reconstructed with implants. Implants are put into place immediately after the mastectomy procedure. Patients may have tissue expanders put in place to increase the space for future breast reconstruction. Lubbock women in need of mastectomy also have other options for a more natural breast reconstruction. Patients will need to consider their options carefully with the help of a board-certified plastic surgeon as part of the their full recovery from cancer.

Natural Breast Reconstruction Techniques

For a more natural breast reconstruction, Lubbock doctors perform a technique that uses a flap of the patient’s own tissue. The tissue has blood vessels, fat, and skin and sometimes muscle that is moved from elsewhere on the body to rebuild the breast. This can give a more natural feel and look to the reconstructed breast area. These flaps can be taken from different areas, including the stomach, inner thigh, buttocks, or the back of your body, depending on where your doctor feels is best. These flaps make breast reconstruction appear more natural and will even respond like the rest of your body, enlarging and shrinking if weight is gained or lost. Before this type of plastic surgery, your doctors will advise you of the risks and what to expect so you can know if this is the right type of breast reconstruction for you.

Immediate Reconstruction

Rebuilding the breasts at the time of the mastectomy is called immediate breast reconstruction. Lubbock patients benefit from this approach because it allows all of the surgical work to be performed at once as the plastic surgeon and the breast cancer surgeon coordinate their efforts. You may be a candidate for immediate reconstruction if you do not need additional treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy; if you are having a mastectomy as a preventative measure due to a high risk of breast cancer (a prophylactic mastectomy); and if you do not have diabetes, circulatory problems, or a bleeding disorder.

Delayed Reconstruction

If a reconstructive surgery is postponed until you have had time for a full recovery of your mastectomy, it is referred to as a delayed reconstruction. If some reconstructive surgery is performed at the time of the mastectomy but is completed later with plastic surgery, it is called a delayed-immediate reconstruction. Unlike a breast reduction or implant independent of a mastectomy, the priority for your body is ensuring the cancer is completely treated. If a delay in reconstruction is necessary, take comfort in knowing that the health of your body is the top priority of your health care providers.

Is Breast Reconstruction in Lubbock Covered?

Breast reconstruction is considered to be part of the medical treatment of breast cancer patients. The law requires insurance companies to cover the costs of breast reconstruction even if you decide to have the procedure years after your mastectomy. While this is great news for patients, there are some exceptions. Health plans sponsored by the government or some churches may not cover breast reconstruction. Lubbock patients should always check with their insurance carrier to get a full understanding of their benefits.

Choosing What’s Best For You

Ultimately the choice of whether to get reconstructive plastic surgery is a decision you should make based on how you feel about your body and what helps you heal completely. It is something you can choose much later after your mastectomy, so there is no need to rush into it. Healing emotionally after breast cancer is just as important as healing physically, and breast reconstruction in Lubbock may be part of that healing or may need to come after other cancer treatments. Your health care providers will be able to guide you in knowing what your options are for reconstruction and support you through the process.

Whatever options you choose for your breasts after your recovery, reconstructive breast surgery is a personal choice between a patient and her doctor. Plastic surgery could be just what you need to feel completely recovered from the experience of breast cancer. Dr. Jane Rowley and her staff have the compassion and the experience patients deserve when they need help with difficult choices. At Rowley Plastic Surgery, you can trust that you are in the best possible care. Schedule a no-obligation consultation today to explore your breast reconstruction options.

Your FAQs Answered by the Best Plastic Surgeon in Lubbock

Each plastic surgery candidate is unique and has different needs, goals, and expectations. But patients considering cosmetic procedures often have the same types of questions. There is no harm in doing research online, but it is important to talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon you trust to get the accurate information you need. Banking on unreliable sources could lead you in the wrong direction and can end up being detrimental to your surgical experience.

Your decision whether or not to have a surgical procedure requires good information and knowledge. The more you know about a procedure and its expected outcome and recovery, the better your experience will be. The first key to having a positive experience with plastic surgery is finding the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock for you, and asking them the questions you feel are important for your understanding. Some of the most commonly asked questions include the following:

Is Plastic Surgery Safe?

All surgery has risks. Always discuss with your doctor your medical history and ask about the specific risk factors of the procedure you are planning. For patients in good overall health and who follow their doctor’s instructions, plastic surgery does not have any unique risks over other surgeries. Complete disclosure to your doctor of your previous or current medical conditions and any prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements you may be taking is a crucial part of ensuring your safety.

Another important element for your safety is the qualification of your plastic surgeon. Board-certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is a must. When looking for the best plastic surgeon, Lubbock patients should make sure their doctor has the experience and training necessary to perform their specific procedure. Positive referrals from trustworthy sources can be very helpful in finding a surgeon who can provide you with high quality care.

What Makes a Good Plastic Surgery Candidate?

With any plastic surgery, a patient should be in good health, not smoke, and carefully consult with his or her doctor. Your plastic surgery candidacy will also depend on specific factors associated with the procedure you are planning. If you are interested in breast augmentation, you will need to discuss your body size, breast tissue, and breast skin with your doctor. Patients who want procedures like liposuction will have their skin elasticity and muscle tone evaluated to determine their candidacy. Having a positive outlook and realistic goals and expectations are important for any patient considering plastic surgery.

Will My Insurance Cover the Costs?

Most plastic surgeries are considered elective, and even great insurance does not usually pay for procedures that are not considered medically necessary. Check with your insurance policy to know what your payment options are. Some plastic surgery procedures are covered by insurances. If you are interested in a nose job, breast reduction, or eyelid surgery, you may be covered by insurance if the procedure is needed for medical reasons. It is always important to check with your insurance company before having any medical treatment or procedure to clearly understand what your benefits are. Always discuss with your doctor expected expenses and payment options and expectations before treatment.

What are My Payment Options?

If an out of pocket payment sounds scary, then consider a credit option. The cosmetic boost you are wanting just might be more than the budget can handle with an all at once, one time payment. Most doctors have policies that require payment to be made in full at or before the time of service. Even the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock is not set up to keep track of payments and balances like a credit company would.

Many patients find their plastic surgery payment to be more manageable with CareCredit. CareCredit is a credit card that is specifically designed for procedures and treatments that are not generally covered under a medical insurance plan. This card is a little different than a regular credit card, as it has no-interest payment plans and a variety of payoff options. CareCredit offers short repayment times giving you the ability to manage your healthcare costs better. Visit their site for more information.

What Factors Impact the Success of My Surgery?

Each patient is an individual case for plastic surgery. There are a wide variety of factors that play into the outcome of your procedure. The best plastic surgeons in Lubbock will be happy to answer all of your questions, and they should thoroughly cover all aspects of your surgery, including recovery. A key factor to a successful plastic surgery experience is starting with an experienced, board-certified surgeon. Makeovers Aren’t Just for Moms

We often hear about women who get mommy makeovers to get back to their pre-pregnancy shape by having plastic surgery on their breasts and belly. Men are beginning to take advantage of the surgical options they have to restore their youthful look as well. Like the typical breast and belly combination of the mommy makeover, the procedures for men can also target these areas. By combining a male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia and abdominal liposuction, men can help their own efforts to improve their masculine ab and chest appearance. A healthy diet and regular exercise are still necessary to maintain the athletic look that many men desire, but sometimes diet and exercise are simply not enough. Pairing these efforts with the skills of the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock can help restore a more youthful look and feel. These makeovers can consist of any combination of procedures that are right for you. Below are a few of the common procedures that men choose from when considering plastic surgery.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the top plastic surgery procedures requested by men. That soft stomach that hangs over the top of the pants plagues both men and women, and typically gets worse with age. Liposuction addresses this concern, but it is not meant to be a weight loss technique. Patients should be in good health and at a stable weight before applying this procedure as an additional tool for shaping and refining. When you are working with the best plastic surgeon in Lubbock, the arms, hips, back, face, and legs can all benefit from liposuction as well.

Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction, can reduce the appearance of breasts on men. Male breast reduction can treat enlarged male chests by removing the fatty excess breast tissue, as well as the excess or stretched skin, to tighten the chest area and produce a more toned appearance. Combining this procedure with liposuction can achieve exceptional results with the best plastic surgeon Lubbock patients trust. The appearance of a female chest from excess fat and skin can cause a great amount of self-consciousness for men. The restoration of tone in the chest area can improve both physical and emotional qualities of life.

Neck Lifts and Chin Augmentation

Men typically have a well-defined jawline and a clean chin to neck connection. If this is lacking due to excess skin and fat on the neck or an abnormally small lower jaw projection, you may look older than you are. A neck lift can resolve that “turkey neck” look and can improve your everyday life by making dress shirts and ties more comfortable. This procedure can also take years off your appearance. For those with insufficient jaw projection, a combination of a chin implant with liposuction of the jawline can give a contoured and sculpted look that creates a strong masculine jaw.

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial treatments can provide benefits through both surgical and non-surgical techniques. They target facial signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, deep creases, facial and neck sagging, crepey skin, and other concerns. Plastic surgery options include a facelift and neck and forehead lifts. Non-surgical procedures include muscle relaxant injections, dermal fillers, and laser treatments.

Wave Goodbye to Arm Flab with Brachioplasty

Hold your arm up and give an enthusiastic wave to your neighbor. Does that thought make you want to cringe? When we age or lose a significant amount of weight, our upper arms can sag with excess fat. If you have arms with what are lovingly referred to as “bat wings,” just waving to your neighbor can make you want to hide under extra layers of clothing. Dr. Jane Rowley is the leading board-certified surgeon in Lubbock with the training and expertise to tone and sculpt your arms. After arm lift plastic surgery, Lubbock patients may find themselves waving to both friends and strangers just to show off their new arms.

What Brachioplasty Does

Brachio means arm, and plasty means to mold or to form. An arm lift removes both fat and extra skin on the underside of the upper arm area.  While it may seem simple just to remove fat, this procedure requires the artistic touch of a skilled and experienced surgeon. Brachioplasty includes a careful sculpting of the arm to ensure the taper in size from shoulder to wrist looks smooth and natural. An improved contour of the arms can boost confidence and give you the freedom to wear what you want without worrying about arm flab.

The Ideal Arm Lift Candidate

If you have excess skin and fatty tissue on your upper arms that do not change with exercise, you could be a good candidate for arm lift plastic surgery. Lubbock men and women interested in the procedure should also meet the following criteria:

  • You are at a healthy, stable weight
  • You are in overall good health with no medical conditions that would increase surgical risks
  • You do not use nicotine, or you can stop for an extended period of time
  • You have realistic expectations about the procedure

Preparing for Brachioplasty

During your arm lift consultation, be prepared to go over your medical history and any drugs or supplements you may be taking. Your doctor will examine your arms and determine whether the excess skin and fat is significant enough to warrant the procedure. You will need to clearly communicate your hopes and expectations for the surgical results. Don’t be afraid to ask questions; this is your chance to get a thorough understanding of the procedure and how it can personally benefit you. If you smoke, it is important that you plan to stop for several weeks before and after your surgery.

Should You Add Liposuction?

Liposuction itself does not get rid of any excess skin; it removes fat to trim and shape the arm. Because removing fat often leaves an excess of skin, pairing liposuction with brachioplasty may be necessary for more dramatic results. For patients who only need a minimal reduction in size, liposuction alone may be sufficient. Consult with your plastic surgeon about the best combination of procedures for you.

Recovery After Your Arm Lift

After plastic surgery, Lubbock patients should plan to have someone drive them home from their operation and stay with them for at least the first 24 hours. You need to have someone with you as you start your recovery and work through the side effects of anesthetics. Your surgeon will ask that you try to keep your arms elevated and as straight as possible. You will be fitted for compression garments for your arms as well. It is important to rest and follow your surgeon’s instructions carefully for a successful recovery.

Getting Back into Your Life

Your recovery period will range from one to several weeks depending on how extensive your procedure is. Each patient will have a unique experience with recovery from brachioplasty. Some people experience discomfort, bruising, or swelling. Plan to take at least a week off work or other obligations to allow time for your body to heal. Expect to be back to your normal activities in 3 to 4 weeks. You can start an exercise routine about 6 weeks after your surgery, but complete resolution of swelling can take up to 8 weeks.

Rejuvenating Results

The results of your arm lift are visible immediately, and after surgery the scarring will fade significantly over time. On the right patient, an arm lift can make a dramatic difference in appearance and give the arms a new youthful look. Shopping for clothes will be more enjoyable as you find that you no longer have to hunt for sizes that fit your arms.

Discover Your Different Breast Implant Options with Dr. Rowley

Women have often heard of saline or silicone gel implants, but now Dr. Jane Rowley offers three breast implant options. A new, revolutionary “structured” implant combines the beauty of silicone gel with the security of saline to give women the freedom and confidence they deserve. IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants use the latest implant technology to provide the best features women want in an implant, without the worry of “silent rupture.”

Silicone Implants and “Silent Rupture”

When a saline implant develops a tear or hole, a woman’s body can harmlessly absorb the sterile saltwater solution until the implant is removed and replaced. On the other hand, silicone implants carry the risk of “silent rupture.” This happens when sticky silicone gel leaks into the surrounding breast tissue without a woman knowing her implant is compromised. Only an MRI scan can detect a “silent rupture,” and surgery is then required to clean out the escaped gel.

The IDEAL IMPLANT carries no risk of “silent rupture,” and requires no MRI to detect rupture. Women can simply look in the mirror to ensure their implants are intact. In fact, the innovative design of the IDEAL IMPLANT provides structural strength to the implant giving it a lower rupture rate compared to silicone gel implants. The video below further compares the IDEAL IMPLANT to saline and silicone implants.

A Technology-Driven Choice

When Dr. Robert Hamas invented the IDEAL IMPLANT, he wanted to create an implant choice that did not force women to sacrifice beauty for security. He found that women were caught between wanting the natural feel of silicone gel, and the peace of mind that comes with saline. That’s when he decided to find a solution that those other breast implant options could not offer.

The IDEAL IMPLANT underwent ten years of development, refinement, and extensive testing under the care of a dedicated team of scientists, engineers, and consultants. Then in 2014, it was approved by the FDA and Health Canada following a multi-center trial of 502 women, and information provided in volumes of safety, manufacturing, and clinical data. The IDEAL IMPLANT is made with proven breast implant materials in an FDA-inspected facility using advanced robotics to achieve greater product consistency and high quality standards.

Comparing Breast Implant Options

The IDEAL IMPLANT is only available to an exclusive group of board-certified plastic surgeons such as Dr. Rowley. She explains the difference between “structured,” saline, and silicone implants:

“The IDEAL IMPLANT is a new saline implant, it is a structured saline implant. The implant itself has a baffled design, so it cuts down on rippling and it feels more natural, which are the two downsides to the traditional saline implant. Silicone feels softer and has less rippling, but the IDEAL IMPLANT really does approximate the feel and look of a silicone implant with the benefits of a saline implant, in that, if it leaks, it’s much easier to tell if it’s leaking. In fact, you can’t miss a leak on a saline implant. A silicone implant can have an undetected leak for years and years, and is much more difficult to remove when it does leak. A saline implant can be removed sometimes with a local anesthetic and it is much easier to deal with. So as far as the IDEAL IMPLANT, I think it’s a great choice in many different cases – older women, women that are switching our ruptured silicone implants, anyone who’s concerned about detecting a leak over time.”

Considering a Breast Lift? Lubbock Women Should Plan Ahead

Women have several plastic surgery options for breast enhancement. Mastopexy, or a breast lift, creates a youthful look by raising sagging breasts. The procedure gets rid of excess skin, lifts the nipple to a more forward position, and reshapes the existing tissue to give an overall more perky appearance. A breast lift can help with asymmetry and make clothing and swimwear fit more comfortably. For women who think they may be interested in a breast lift, Lubbock Dr. Jane Rowley recommends preparing for the procedure and following all pre- and post-operative instructions. She wants all of her patients to have a comfortable and smooth experience on the day of their breast lift, and getting ready beforehand is one way you can make sure that happens.

Preparing for Your Breast Lift

At your preoperative doctor visit, you will discuss your medical history, previous surgeries, and any medications or supplements you take. You will have a physical exam of your breasts so the doctor can determine your skin tone, positioning of your nipples, and other details for your breast lift. Lubbock patients should communicate clearly with their doctor about their surgical expectations and why they want a breast lift. It is always important to consult with your doctor before any procedure so you can understand exactly what the procedure can or cannot do and what the expected recovery will be. You may be asked to have a mammogram done before your surgery to establish a baseline for tracking changes in your breast tissue.

Preparing for Your Surgery

The right preparations for the day of your surgery can have an effect on your recovery. You will need to follow any pre-surgical instructions from the doctor carefully. You will be told what things you will need to bring and what type of clothes to wear after your breast lift. Lubbock patients may be advised not to take some of the medications they are taking. Be sure to avoid any anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements as they can increase your risk of bleeding. If you use nicotine, you will need to stop for several weeks before your surgery, as nicotine can affect your healing by decreasing blood flow to the skin. You will also want to make arrangements for someone to help you after your procedure.

The First Few Weeks

For the first 2 to 3 weeks following their breast lift, Lubbock patients can usually expect to bruise, swell, and have some postoperative pain. Incisions can feel sore and you may experience numbness in your nipples. All of these symptoms are normal, but they will vary from patient to patient as pain tolerance and recovery times differ for each individual. If pain management is difficult or you have any concerns about your recovery, contact your doctor.

During the first few weeks after your surgery, it is critical to give your body the opportunity to heal from surgery for the best results of your breast lift. Lubbock patients should ease gently back into parts of their normal routine as they start to feel better. Some things you can do to help your recovery be successful include:

  • Wearing a compression bra for the recommended amount of time
  • Staying elevated at a 25 to 45-degree angle, even when sleeping
  • Avoid sleeping on your stomach
  • Avoid any activity that involves lifting, bending, or straining

The First Few Months

It may take a month or two before all swelling is gone and you start to see the final results of your breast lift. Lubbock is full of fun things to do, but be patient with your body and you should be able to resume normal activity 4 to 6 weeks after your surgery. It’s important not to overestimate how good you are feeling too soon after your surgery and jump back into your daily routine too quickly. Remember that your body needs time to heal properly, so give yourself permission to slow down and take it easy. Numbness in nipples is usually gone in the first couple of months after surgery. Scars will continue to fade over the next 12 months.

Combining Procedures for Dramatic Enhancements

Some patients may wish to combine a breast lift with liposuction or tummy tuck for a mommy makeover. You can also get breast implants with a breast lift. Lubbock patients who combine procedures may requires a little longer time for recovery. Discuss with your doctor what options are best for you.
